Arizona and UCSB should field better teams then.

UCSB was 37-18-1 with an RPI of #23 entering the NCAA Tournament. Third place in a conference which sent three teams. We were decent enough to host. We just don't have lights (amongst other things), which was stated previously.

Arizona just got punished because a sub .500 team won the Pac-12, methinks. They certainly have the facilities to host.

So which team that received a regional bid did either UCSB or Arizona deserve to replace?

Regional hosts and RPI

Florida 1
Louisville 2
Miami 3
Texas A&M 4
LSU 5
Clemson 6
NC State 7
Ole Miss 8
S. Carolina 9
Miss State 10
FSU 11
Vandy 13
TCU 14
UL-L 15
Texas Tech 16
Virginia 20

All are ranked ahead of Arizona at 22 and UCSB at 23, and there were four teams that made the field (and one that didn't in UNC) that were ranked higher than either.

Yeah, still looking good for UCSB at the moment.

Big leads are not always safe in regionals, though, especially after the first two days when teams are either going deep into their pitching depth or overusing pitchers who have already thrown a lot of innings in the regional. Miami was leading 8-1 against Long Beach State last night; Long Beach tied the game at 8-8 and Miami won it with a run in the bottom of the 9th.

Yes, Rice or LSU has to win on Tuesday to advance, hence "Rice/LSU winner".

CC/NCS matchup corrected above.

Props to Arizona. They needed two wins today and got both of them to advance. I'm glad we have another western representative alongside us.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this, but we had all directions of Carolina represented in this year's Tournament.
North Carolina State, South Carolina, Western Carolina, Eastern Carolina, and Coastal 03-cool

The NCAA was never going to let 3 schools from the same state host regionals. (OMAHA = Ole Miss At Home Again).

One year there were two regionals in the city of Houston.

Coastal Carolina scored 4 in the 9th to beat NC State and win their regional today. They'll play the Rice/LSU winner in a super regional, which will be hosted by Coastal if Rice wins today, and hosted by LSU if LSU wins.

The full super regional schedule is here: http://www.ncaa.com/news/baseball/articl...i-baseball

After 5 days and maybe the worst weather at a regional ever, LSU wins the Baton Rouge Regional with a 5-2 victory over Rice.

LSU hosts Coastal Carolina, upset winner of the Raleigh Regional, in a Super Regional.

The Sweet 16 consists of:

5 SEC
4 ACC
3 Big 12
1 PAC
1 AAC
1 Big South
1 Big West

The ACC is guaranteed at least 1 CWS team, and no more than 3 CWS teams, as BC and Miami play in a Super Regional.

Can't complain too much about that breakdown.

South Carolina had to claw back from an 0-1 start in their own regional and to their credit, they did. They were the only team to lose their first game and still advance,

For those not familiar with the NCAA baseball Tournament, the Super Regionals are a best-of-three series with the winners all advancing to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

Standing in the way between UCSB and their first trip to Omaha, is the #2 national seed Louisville who has only lost once at home all year. Okay then 04-rock

Would be nice to see NAU and others join the party. If Northern Colorado can have baseball, so can NAU.
