And, one could hope, since ECU wanted us in with them the last time (C*USA) maybe that vibe is still going and they would advocate for us to join them again in the AAC.

Some ECU fans make it seem like Holland went rogue when he vouched for us and helped get us into C-USA. If we join them again, it might be in spite of their efforts this time.

They are probably the same ECU fans that thought they had a legit shot of going to the Big 12. They seem to forget they are not too far removed from living the CAA life with us.

RE: ODU move to the AAC?
I have to think ECU would think of us in a similar way as we think of JMU. They would love to hate us, think of themselves as a step ahead etc, but it would certainly add fan interest, rivalry and a nice close drivable game that would generate some press. The benefits of being with us (in the AAC) certainly outweigh the negatives.

6-8 left
ECU, UNLV out. AIr Force still in as football only.
Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, UConn, USF, UCF and two other AAC schools are on the list, as well as BYU.

Quote:Update: Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. -- The updates keep coming from schools around the country. Per Chuck Carlton, roughly 10 schools remain in the running. Sources have said the Big 12 has narrowed it further, to six to eight. Colorado State, Temple and Cincinnati are still in the running, while East Carolina reported a cut. UNLV also said it was out of contention according to the Coloradoan.

Temple to the Big 12? That is laughable. Maybe they could invite Drexel for the Philly market instead - CAA style...

That was my first reaction, until I thought about it.

Temple is the only Div 1/FBS all sport University in the #4 Television market. (Except for maybe Rutgers in the Delaware Valley)
It is well known and well thought of.
Academics are good.
Enrollment is almost 40,000.

If you want the 4th best market in America, then Temple is really the best choice.

I agree with most of what you said about Temple, my points are less related to the school (aside from the fact that their football team isn't famous for being great).

Philly is a pro sports town, much like Atlanta. I don't believe that particular TV market means much for college sports but I could be underestimating that. I also can't see Texas or Baylor being all excited to play Temple on Saturdays.

I'm watching UConn Maine on ASN, opening night, decent weather maybe 10k at home for UConn, anyone really thinks they go to the Big XII? No way

I think we are a better fit in the Big XII than UConn, save basketball, and we [ODU] has ZERO shot at the Big 12

RE: ODU move to the AAC?
Yes, we have a zero chance at the Big 12, however don't believe the AAC is already sizing up, who they want in the AAC. Here are some of the reasons why I think we at least have a chance.

49 straight football sellouts

We can enlarge up to 30K

ODU has the second highest budget in the C-USA

If we were in the AAC we could play more attractive teams like Navy, Temple, East Carolina, JMU and they all would be sellouts.

We probably rated about 3rd or 4th in basketball attendance right now in the AAC. If we went to the AAC all of our league home games, would be sellouts, not counting VCU etc

Media market We are one of the top in the country and are close to the AAC

It will help our recruiting and enlarge our football field quicker than expected

Conn draw 10K last week for it's home football game. Rice average averaged 15K last year, for football.

UNCC is just in it's first few years of football

10 schools are left for the Big 12 to pick from. 5 are from the AAC

I don't think the Big 12 will pick rice and Huston. Probably Houston.

That leaves Cincy and BYU (religious restrictions maybe).

My guess is they pick Houston and BYU

That leaves one opening for the AAC. If they pick Cincy and Houston, then I think we are in. If they just pick Houston then at least we have a chance. Other opinions are invited. Are you listening, Mr. Selig? My guess is he already, has his ducks in a row!

RE: ODU move to the AAC?
I'll ask for the umpteenth time. Why do people keep saying us and JMpoo in the same conference? They are NEVER moving up. I for one would not want to dilute the talent pool in the state with one more FBS school anyway. They sunk all that money in BridgeTooFarth Stadium on a wing and a prayer and have nothing to offer any FBS conference. While they do have the most beautiful interstate rest stop campus in the country, and a beautiful location. No TV market. None. Nada. No conference will ever invite them. Simply because for non-P5 conferences TV money is getting more and more scarce. No conference will willing cut dwindling per school allocations any further for a school that will not bring additional TV market penetrations. Period. Whatever chance JMU had to move up has disappeared.

I was just asking who he thought had a bigger budget. Since we have no idea what Rice's budget is, I was assuming OP was mistaken in the comment or jumping to a conclusion no one here can prove.

Remember, the privates are not listed.

I was just asking who he thought had a bigger budget. Since we have no idea what Rice's budget is, I was assuming OP was mistaken in the comment or jumping to a conclusion no one here can prove.
