ORLANDO, Fla. - History was made in Orlando, Fla., Sunday night for the University of Cincinnati women's track and field program as the Bearcats amassed 111 points to win a hotly contested team race to capture the first team title in its history by securing the 2016 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships meet. Javette Lee (100m hurdles) and Annette Echikunwoke (hammer) each won individual titles to bolster a team that collected 71 of its overall point total on the final day of competition to lift the trophy.

Congratulations to the women's team athletes, coaching staff, team managers and supporters. This type of accomplishment is terrific for UC in so many ways... including making us more attractive as a potential conf expansion candidate as we can show competitiveness in more and more sports. And of course it introduces the Bearcat name and brand to a new group of sports enthusiasts.

Our olympic sports have really stepped it up this year. Improvement across the board in volleyball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, track&field, and golf. The only real bottom feeder is WBB.

Great news and congrats to the Lady Bearcats! Thanks for being true ambassadors for our university and bringing home a conference championship is always a good thing no matter the sport.
