Carolina Panthers Load Up On CUSA Talent
Along with the Vernon Butler pick at 30 the Panthers also signed Devon Johnson (FB) from Marshall along with Jenson Stoshak (WR) from FAU. I think it's going to be hard for Stoshak to make the team but if Devon Johnson can prove his worth as FB/RB hybrid, he has the possibility to unseat an aging Mike Tolbert.
Going a little further for fans, the Panthers picked up 4 of the Top 50 UDFAs in PFF's list and the top 2 in Jeremy Cash (Duke) and Keyarris Garrett (Tulsa).

Johnson will first have to pass the NFL physical which will be much more thorough than the NCAA. Then he'll need a huge summer camp and preseason. If he can show he's good for 2 yards every time he touches the ball he might be their FB of the future.

I'm huge Tolbert fan but he lost a step last year and he did himself no favors in SB50. The fact that RR favors veterans does give him a leg up.

Injuries are the only thing that can keep Johnson from a solid, long NFL career. His skill set, the ability to be a beast on special teams, play LB, TE, RB, FB and do them all well, is very valuable on a 53 man roster.

Devon had a good junior year and a bad senior year. Obviously had the injury bug senior year but I think a lot of his success junior year was because of Cato. He made a lot of defenses have to play pass first and that helped Devon tremendously

Not quite. Yeah they had to respect Cato, but they also had to respect Litton. No the difference between Devon 2014 and Devon 2015 was 100% injuries. He didn't play half the season. When he did play he struggles because of injuries.
