UIC has a badass view. Imagine if the Sox organization would have thought to make GRF anything resembling that stadium.

That is an amazing view. I would love to see a game at UIC.

My boss is a (north burbs) Chicago native and we've discussed many times how the Sox built the new stadium right next to Old Comiskey in the heart of the South Side. He believes that there was a ton of back office wheeling and dealing between city and state politicians and the Sox that lead to the stadium being built on the South Side as opposed to the south or SW burbs, where another stadium was being promoted (I believe).

Has a book or any in depth reporting been done on this? Would be fascinating to hear the story on how the Sox ended up back on the South Side.

"They would have been able to build a new fan base, and there's tremendous growth still going on in that area. As it is, all they have is a new ballpark in the same semi-industrial neighborhood that's never been advantageous for drawing crowds."


In the summer of 1988, when the Illinois General Assembly moved the clock back to four minutes before the midnight deadline and approved the Comiskey Park project by nine votes, Reinsdorf was saddled with his promise that he wouldn't leave Chicago if the club was given a new stadium. The new Comiskey will be financed by a state-city sports authority that will pay for revenue bonds through a 2% tax on hotel and motel rooms in Chicago.

Thanks. As far as I know, that was the only site he was looking at.

The Cell is a great place to go watch a baseball game.

Wrigley is a great place to go have a good time while a game is being played...on top of before and/or after if you so desire.

Sox Tailgating = Obstructed Views at Wrigley

Overall not a big deal but definitely not as good as the crosstown offering.


Though its just my opinion and it really doesn't matter.
