I have always said that - if given the opportunity - that we could 'buy' our way in and it looks like that just might be the way we do.
I must also say this: our ceiling is very, very high. In fact, I would argue that our ceiling is the highest amongst all the Big12 aspirants. We are a big city with a big time love of college FB. If we can put over 50k in the seats for a game against Navy, we can draw 60k EVERY YEAR for Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and/or Texas. I think Cincinnati is the high ceiling/high floor/low risk aspirant. They are solid and remain a good fit. They were in a P6 (at the time) conference and did fine...but didn't blow the doors off, so to speak.
When/if we get in, I really, really, really like our future. Outside of Louisville, there wasn't a school more hungry and more deserving of 'joining the club'. We have a huge, untapped market that would LOVE to have big time college FB in their own city. Not in Oxford, not in Starkville, not in Knoxville. But Memphis.
It was not meant to be public since it was obtained via FOIA

Media contacts are clueless, hence the slowly leaked information that is now coming out. If they were any good, they would have known what they know now - 18 months ago.
OK. So what contacts are NOT clueless that you use?
Never get reliable information form the Media, you are at that point at a minimum two points of separation and most likely three to four. At that point, its not a source, the source was who the media got their information from.
I am a one point of separation kind of a guy. I don't guess, I don't put anything down in writing that is not factual (look up my history) unless it's factual. If I put my "thoughts" I say these are my "thoughts". Those are different than speculation. I don't speculate, its a dangerous business to speculate and its a dangerous business to get information four or five points removed.

There are also likely private and municipal projects that may be included. The overall number is impressive and the impact on the university will tremendous but let's not kid ourselves into thinking that this means Dr. Rudd will announce $500 worth of building projects after we get invited.
He mentioned the $500 million number last December.
And that number includes 2 recently completed projects that probably account for 1/4 of the $500 million as well as private projects in the university district.
Impressive yes, but I think some are overplaying the significance. We have a whole thread about an OCS because, you know, how else could we get to $500 million?

Nothing to see there that has not already been seen.

I'm not trying to say he's right....but I've been hearing that Fred and Fed have been allocating funds for over half a year now. So this isn't surprising news.

yep it wouldn't make sense for them to leak something like this if it wasn't close to being done especially with what happened with Parrish and the big east bribe story last time

Your logic is a little flawed. You do not sweeten a deal which is already made. You sweeten it to help move the decision in your favor.

In what bizarro world? You make such an offer publicly to help sway the decision in your favor. You're really grasping at straws to try and spin things. The offer made to the Big East was made BEFORE the invite came not after. The sponsorship of the Championships is a bargaining chip that was put on the table to help get more votes..

Had a UT guy say he wished Memphis were in the SEC and said he would hate to see us in the Big 12 instead of the SEC...Because he knows what a game Changer its about to be.....Its Coming Soon....Just like i said, Its been a Done Deal....Patience Is A Virtue...No Limits...The World Is Ours Memphis....
(05-10-2016 05:45 PM)tigerscane Wrote: Ok Penny so you think the Tigerlane Spots are increasing like a Big Time Conference if it wasn't and they are staying in the AAC lol....Please....You think Erhart was in Phoenix during the Meetings just because too i suppose....Doesn't matter, Deal has been done for some time now.....Memphis and Cincy are Big 12 bound and have been just like me and a few others been saying......Patience Is A Virtue....No Limits...The World Is Ours Memphis....
Ehrhart's presence is not evidence of us being in.
The increase in Tigerlane spots is not evidence of us getting in.
Enough with delusional reasoning.
If we are in, neither Ehrhart's Phoenix presence nor the increase in Tigerlane spots are the consequence of it. Both are unaffected. The Big 12 decision is inconsequential to both.
Ehrhart may be in Phoenix because of Liberty Bowl business since a Big12 team receives an invites. The seat improvements are definitely to position the school for the Big12. If I recall how the increase in price is scheduled, the Tiger Lane price increase schedule appears on target with the soonest the Big12 expands. Tiger Lane prices go up a little in 2016 but then I think it starts going to the big donors the following year.
There's no maybe about it. That IS the reason he was there. If Memphis isnt included, he's still there. Your other two references are correct too, they are reflections of the pursuit of better opportunities, not evidence of any guarantees.

Nothing leaked guys, it was found from a media FOIA request out of Gee's office at UWV. Fred Smith didn't leak it, Dr Rudd didn't leak it - neither "went public", both just confirmed the story that came from the FOIA findings.
