The Kroger CEO has written similar letters on behalf of UC.
Letters?

The chairman of Kroger is an American business icon that is personally helping UC get in?

Kroger has offered to sponsor the BigXII championship game?

Fred Smith and FedEx are doing a lot more to get us in than any other company is doing for any other school.

Are we 100% certain about that? We know the FedEx is going above and beyond. Are we 100% certain that other companies aren't doing the same for other schools?

Same can be said for the Big East, but they didn't invite us until about 7 or 8 schools departed and we were the last ones left to pick.

No it could not.

We had RC and Shirley
Now we have Dr. Rudd, Tom, Brad Martin
Now we have a Football Program
Now we have huge commitment to facilities

Agree. Other companies are going above and beyond for certain schools. The best example is Nike, who flat out built Oregon into what it is today.

Yep - the University, and particularly the football program, has been totally transformed in the last 5 years. Take a look on youtube at the crowds for the Cinci, Ole Miss and Navy games. Amazing stuff.

Ric Campo and the under the radar businessmen going to bat for Houstin are an interesting variable that should not be underestimated by the hubristic on our side. I only hope that our campaign goes far beyond FedEx. If money talks, then the fact that some real estate dude in Houston was influential in convincing the NFL monolith to bring their Super Bowl there shold not be dismissed off hand.

We may still seal the deal, but if money can overcome obstacles, they are not to be overlooked, along with rymors if Ken Star's political maneuverings.

Here's to hoping we overcome it all and accelerate ongoing improvements in Memphis.

What does that have to do with the sports marketing arm of FedEx being able to do things for the Big East?

That's my point...we may not be the only school getting assistance. If Houston (or any other school) knows what we are offering then they can go to their whales and ask to top it.

Thats my concern too.

Here is my response to myself: The 500 mill isnt an offer. It is a resume. Public info from Dec 2015. We've already achieved that without the Big 12 to show our seriousness in improving our school academically and athletically for any P5 conference, and for our ability to a ttract better students and faculty.

And FedEx? That isnt a surprise to anyone due to their involvement in the NBA and the Big East.

So, we really dont have any new insight into the cards up our sleeves regarding any offer we can or will make. Whatever it is must be more than a preexisting 500 mill + FedEx.

At least I hope so, lol...

Surprise em with lumping Autozone, Laurie, and some Chamber members into a massive deal, and adding a Big 12 partnership with St. Jude for research and internships, and maybe add 100 mill to the construction pipeline. I like Dan Wetzel's (I think) idea of FedEx doing individual sponsorships to schools and their teams on top of conference sponsorships, ie KState women's basketball or something. Go school to school, and if the company has the wherewithal, have the companies offer sponsorships for votes. Not as a first option, but somewhere in the negotiation arsenal. Just throwing ideas, I have no special insight into the process.

FedEx is arguably the most recognized corporate sponsor in sports. Don't get fixated on a particular dollar figure. It's potentially much more valuable in associated impression coverage than what individual "whales" or corporations elsewhere may offer.

At least somebody gets it.

Yep that was a great post +3
