RE: Time to expand Williams Stadium
That article also mentioned season tickets were up 25 percent, since FBS announcement, for what is still an FCS year.

Here's some speuclative spin. We drew 22k for Montana. Let's assume any G5 would draw similar interest as FCS montana. Let's also assume that 25 pct increase in season tickets correlates to the sales increase at the gate as well.

22k * 1.25 = 27k avg g5 attendance. Maybe the increase for the actual FBS season will be closer to 40 percent, putting it around 31k. Then, the P5 could draw an additional 20-50% from average, making 4Ok+ a possibility.

So, maybe 30k makes sense for first couple of years, then make it 35k by time VT level P5s come in. Hard to say. If they make it nice with towers and locker rooms, 30k could feel bigger than it is. Just think how different the home tower changed the stadium, and that was only 7k seats.

We could theoretically set up an additional 5-10k for special games through rented bleachers. 30k in general sounds smart and responsible in the short term.

RE: Time to expand Williams Stadium
One additional thought, 30,000 with 3-5k in temp seating or standing room for the bigger games, would be from a marketing perspective, a strong position. 35,000 seats with 3-5k unsold seats, would be barely noticeable. But we all want to go to the great restaurant where there is a short wait time (that validates the quality of the establishment), versus one where there are lots of unused tables and seats and few dining.

I'm still banging the drum for 35k. And that is purely instinctual and conjecture.

Whether 30 or 35...would love to see some drawings!

Yep. I guess they will start working on it the week following our last game this season. Maybe they are holding designs to present during the football season.

If that is the case, I can see the big reveal during homecoming for maximum reach and effect.

As of this spring, plans were being completely reworked. I honestly believe that they will announce the plans when they are ready. Of course I doubt they would have such a big reveal without students on campus. They will want to maximize the impact whenever it is announced.

It also makes sense that they would reveal ASAP for recruiting purposes, which is true for both the future schedule and the stadium. Waiting until the students are back makes sense, but I'm sure some marketing material on the new stadium would help on the prospects front. We'll see i guess.

One would think the announcement of the expansion would be a calculated one. One to assist in recruiting and branding purposes.

Well, looks like someone just dug up the initial phase permit...

they're clearly going in stages, as that rendition looks like alot more seats than 25K.

it's most likely going to be on each end zone

This is phase one. phase two will probably come in 2020/2021 and that's going to be around 35k. It's going to be a horse shoe. phase three is way down the road and that's going to be 60k which would be a bowl. The design might have changed from 2010 but the idea hasn't.

That is impressive. The horseshoe is going to look awesome when it's done. It kinda reminds me of Wake Forest. It will be a good home venue.

Yep if they put a video board in brick near where it says Liberty University it will be very similar to Wake Forest.

And to think a few years ago LU was using the visitors locker room and visiting teams were using locker facilities in old nearby buildings. I remember rumblings about 12-15 years ago that App St would not come to LU unless the visiting lockers were upgraded. How things have changed. And as renderings go, these look very nice.

In the 90's when I started at LU, the now-removed visitors locker rooms was the LU locker rooms. Where the FOC is in the north end zone was an ugly gravel lot with a wonderful view of the Ericcson plant. Upon on the hill next to that gravel lot, the visiting team went into an oversized aluminum garden shed. I remember Dr. Falwell in chapel lamenting "that teams wouldn't play us because we're Christian," and I'd be thinking, "No. It's because you put them in a shed." We have come a really long way.
