I lived through it. It wasn't that bad. You still got to watch Big Ten football on ESPN. But back then, there were only ten teams, and no ESPN2.

The MAC and AAC each have TV deals that over their duration are worth $125 million.
CUSA ends up with a deal worth 7 million over its duration. That is Sun Belt money. As it should be since its SBC teams.
From what I understand though is Marshall, SoMiss, UAB, Rice and UTEP are getting paid from the departing AAC schools because the terms are that if the next CUSA TV deal was to go down in value, the left behind schools would be paid the difference from the escrow accounts of Tulsa, Tulane, Memphis, East Carolina, Houston and SMU. A 750k a year payment to Marshall, SoMiss, UAB, Rice and UTEP to make up for the loss in TV revenue.

And the current deal sets the maximum buyout to leave the CUSA by current members, which seems like it is going way down.

CUSA today is just above the old Sunbelt. The money is likely right for the schools left. The Mac is sitting pretty for the next few years.. I think the AAC will extend its $$$ advantage in the next go round.
The new world order:
AAC
MWC
Mac
Cusa
Belt

The duration is what 2 years for the CUSA deal?

I had heard, perhaps incorrectly, that the former members (at least Memphis) wiggled out of this..

If memory is correct we are stuck for 5 years. For the first wave schools like UCF, 3 are in rear view, and 2 left to go. So The $$$ they get is very much temporary.

Have the CUSA fans joined you in pimping their schools on the AAC board?

Just curious...
But is this site the most active forum for MAC sports enthusiasts? It's been awfully quiet on here since basketball ended.

I've certainly scaled back my time on this forum since basketball season has come to an end. I occasionally stop by to lurk and see what's happening, but there really hasn't been much newsworthy IMO to discuss.

I'm pleased with the volume of discussions I see relating to the Ohio Bobcats online, even with it being the offseason.

When Marshall was in CUSA with the teams that are now in AAC, they could not compete , Now in current CUSA they are one of CUSA power schools, they are now in the right place.

That is not a fair assessment. The power level of a school often goes up and down. Case in point:
When UCF was in the MAC, they could not compete. When they moved to CUSA, they immediately turned into one of the top teams. Then when they moved to the Big East they were even better, but when the Big East dissolved into the AAC, UCF no longer could compete.
So does UCF need to go to the Sun Belt so that they can be on top again? No. They just need to rebuild like what Marshall had to do in the late 2000's.
