Why aim so low? Why not go after Penn State and and Miami (Florida)?

I'm not saying this is wrong, but it surprises me that the ESPN deal would allow for reopening of the contract if the conference added members. It seems to me expansion would only make the property more valuable.
Reminds me of the new B1G commercial (highlighting that the Big Ten is really 14).
40% more teams, 40% more games, 40% more cheerleaders, 40% more highlights, etc.
Yep, gives the B1G marketers more material to work with...

I believe this is only partially true. The MAC had been playing in those same time slots for years now with very little pay. The thing that has changed, and I am not kidding, is MACtion. I assume advertisers are willing to pay more money for time slots in MAC games than they had because we developed an identity and our ratings have been strong. Otherwise, why would ESPN approach the MAC willing to pay substantially more money than they had been? The conference had begun to add a lot of value to the network via ad dollars and that is why it is being paid more than before.
It was a number of factors but MACtion branding along with high scoring week night games, which attracted a large audience and are the top reasons IMHO.
Plus:
NIU was fresh off being rated and going to the Orange bowl.
The basketball is pretty good as well. Toledo women BB was very good and didn't Akron have a recent soccer championship.
It was good timing and a good job by the commish, always thought he did a good job.

Does your theory involve asteroids striking Orlando, Houston, Dallas, Tulsa, and small towns in North Carolina and Connecticut?

It pretty much would have to include asteroids.
PAC (Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU)
B1G (Kansas, Oklahoma)
B12 (SMU, Houston, Cincinnati, Memphis, UConn, Tulsa, Tulane, BYU)
The AAC would be down to 5 schools, 4 schools all sports. It just wouldn't be enough to rebuild. The MAC would have its pick among Temple, USF, UCF, ECU and should go with Temple and USF for the large media markets.
If the 10 team B12 was raided for Texas schools it could great space for a whole ton of AAC schools, enough to destabilize the entire AAC.

Adding Temple (again): Would that be like marrying your ex-wife?

The MAC only went on dates with Temple since they weren't full members. So if they come back as full members it is to start a relationship. Yay we haven't reached Donald Trump divorce levels yet!!!

If an athletic program is in the MAC for 1 sport, that's dating
If in for 2 sports (MO ST), that's living together (co habitation)
Marriage=All Sports the MAC offers
Ball State would be married to the MAC but carrying on an affair with the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (Men's Volleyball Conference), as would WMU, Bowling Green and Miami be for Ice Hockey.

So since Acorn dropped Baseball, and they're no longer married to the MAC (Marriage=All Sports the MAC offers, but AK won't give the rest of the league Baseball), the Zips are also just cohabitating? They're also sleeping around with the Men's Soccer.
Just trying to get the terminology down

The MAC actually offers Men's soccer. There are just only 6 members (one of which is WVU). If marriage= all sports, then Men's soccer eliminates most of the conference.
Most Akron fans wishes our soccer program would leave the MAC, but so far they haven't.

NO, it obviously did not mean "playing in each and every sport that the MAC offers", it meant "playing all of your sports that are offered by the MAC in the MAC." It's saying that MiamiU is still married, even though it fools around with the NCHC in Hockey.

Akron is the "Women of the night" in Soccer. We got to "Pay the Bills" somehow

BTW, anyone paying attention to what is happening with the B1G in their television negotiations with ESPN / Fox?
Are they going to mostly vacate ESPN? How does that affect other conferences on ESPN?
Will MAC games get more and better slots?
http://www.freep.com/story/sports/column.../84585874/
P.S. I didn't live through it, lol, but I read of the decline of the Roman Empire. Don't want to live through the decline of ESPN. That would be sad.
