It's interesting that Riley left UAB for a Clemson assistant job, only to get a much lower profile head coaching position than Ehsan.

Had Riley stayed at UAB, he might not have gotten the attention from Nicholls State that he got by being an assistant at Clemson. Haase got UAB's attention by being an assistant at UNC and then his success at UAB got Stanford's attention.
Career paths can be a bumpy road, but one has to take such risks if one is to advance. Look at Will Muschamp's road from AU assistant (DC) to DC at Texas (thought to be a "FBHC in waiting" like Fisher got at FSU), then to Florida as FBHC, back to AU as DC, and now USC FBHC.
