That is INSANE to me.
In the Fall I will be taking a course with no instructor. It will be just online and somebody will grade stuff after the fact. I'll just be watching pre - recorded videos, or presentations or what ever they plan to do. And it's for a rather intense course (Thermodynamics).
For $1,000 this is the crap I get.
There are far too many contract or Adjunct's teaching as it is.
$4 Billion?! my god.

Now I know what I would have done with that $Billion Powerball should I have won.
Open up a private college in the area...

It is insane because it is nowhere close to accurate. As I posted that
4,000,000,000+ amount was the total expenditures for ALL colleges and universities funded by the Commonwealth. ODU's was $251M.

I was pissed for a while last night lol. I should of verified myself last night.
I had figured it was a couple hundered Million. Thanks for the correction.

The City of Norfolk is just over a $Billion and I can see that. Couldn't see ODU anywhere near half a $Billion.

To your point about adjunct faculty. My experience has been they tend to be far better instructors then tenured staff. They live in the real world and aren't there just to be published.

Who the crap are you taking for Thermo? If you have the chance see if you can't get into Arthur Taylor's thermo class. He made Thermodynamics one of my favorite courses I took at ODU, even with the added stress that is a 6-week summer class. He's a fantastic professor.

I agree on adjunct faculty. I will be trying to teach a class in the next couple years or so. They are able to provide real world examples and tend to relate to the struggles of students as well. I also took some online classes with pre recorded video, but the instructors were very hands on and communicated through email (or simply call them). Just because they aren't in the classroom for 3 hours a week doesn't mean they aren't putting the time in.

For what reason?

If the goal is eventual AAC membership the only men's program ODU sponsors which the AAC does not is wrestling. I don't know what the requirements would be as far as having to compete in all AAC sponsored sports, but they also sponsor softball, and W. volleyball (two sports ODU probably needs to add to become title IX compliant.) The AAC also has indoor and outdoor track and field, and cross country.

Well I certainly hope we don't drop wrestling... Even though I'm sure you're not implying that

I don't believe those athletic budgets are "apples to apples" comparisons in as far as I know there are no standard accounting policies for these budgets.

For instances one university may include the operating cost of their basketball arena in their athletic budget, but another university may carry that cost somewhere else.

Both of you obviously know nothing about message board posters and haven't a clue about how MP posting really works. If you had a clue you would not post such insane, poorly thought out stuff which invites personal insults and derision. Indeed your comments scream for it. 04-chairshot The only folks who clearly know less than you sad uninformed ingrates are actual current and former college players, coaches and athletic directors. I have no problem with the faculty that are moving in or just want to teach for a little bit. I do have a problem with the abuse of the adjuncts on how little they get paid and how they are treated. That's for another discussion.

My problem with doing the online prerecorded classes is that I am going to this school to have my butt in the seat. I chose ODU because it's close.
Had I wanted to do my Engineering Degree online, I could have chosen so many other schools.

My reaction had more to do with $4Billion and what the services the school provides for that budget. It was an incorrect number. I still have problems with having to do my class online. Again, If I wanted that I would have chose another school.

Right Now, Luetke. But it is no time, no building. Just logging into Bb and watching videos. Its a new type of delivery method or something. Wrong class IMO to experiment with this type of delivery.

Had to bump this thread because I’m doing some research. Where did you find the figures for contributions/donations? The reason I ask is that our AD is on a campaign to get 4,000 donors that contribute at least $100. He claims that would put us at the top of CUSA. https://www.ktsm.com/news/local/el-paso-...1309689135
I’m wondering if that’s true.

Your AD is not saying that would be the most money raised, he's saying 4k donors would be the highest total in the conference.
