An interesting NCAA recruiting decision (may greatly benefit schools like ND)
Another NCAA decision that came out of the same meetings that included in the satellite camp ban:

From Blue & Gold Illustrated (ND site)----

"Much has been made this past week about the NCAA's decision to ban satellite camps, and while there's no question that the ruling will have an impact on the national recruiting scene moving forward, that's not the only noteworthy decision that came out of the NCAA's meetings last week.
The D1 Council also adopted a proposal that will allow institutions to cover roundtrip travel costs for the parents and or legal guardians of prospective student-athletes on official visits.

It's a ruling that essentially will be a game-changer for a program like Notre Dame that often times is asking parents to book expensive cross-country flights to accompany their sons on an official visit.

"The biggest challenge we have is that we recruit nationally," Notre Dame recruiting coordinator Mike Elston said on Wednesday. "We don't have a great foundation of guys to choose from like a Georgia has in Georgia or a Ohio State does in Ohio. So for us to be able to recruit nationally from California to Florida and Texas — we have to bring families in to help make that decision, because it's a tough decision to go from California to Notre Dame. And now that we can pay for the families to come, that's going to have a huge impact."

Previous NCAA rules stated that schools could only foot the bill for the prospective student-athlete's travel on official visits. While that wasn't much of a problem for schools that recruited regionally and could ask parents to simply drive to campus, it was a challenge for the Irish."

That is big. I wonder if all these people against it didn't realize that can do this. This soften the ill will of some of those that didn't like the ban.

Should help any program that relies on recruiting hotbeds that are far from their campus.

Ole Miss was in a strong position with a recruit this winter and had him scheduled for a visit with his parents, but his parents missed their flight. Ole Miss couldn't pay for the parents to take a different flight or reschedule for a different date and the parents couldn't pay for another ticket (I don't know why the tickets couldn't be transferred to another flight). Consequently, the five star player who really liked Ole Miss didn't get his parents on campus and he ended up signing with a school the parents were able to visit closer to home in California. Certainly, the recruit might have signed with the hometown school anyway, as I predicted he would all along. But the opportunity to convince his parents to allow him to sign with Ole Miss was lost when they couldn't visit with their son. This new rule changes the game for schools willing to recruit outside of their natural territory and provides parents who couldn't otherwise afford the trip an opportunity to see a school their son is interested in.

Since Notre Dame has always recruited nationally, this is tailor-made for them, but it will also help Ole Miss too, since they are making an effort in areas outside of the south.

I would imagine schools in recruiting hotbeds that dominate their local recruiting, such as in Texas and Florida, don't like this. Perhaps California as well, but the local schools don't seem to dominate their like in the other two.

No one will complain because complaining would be politically incorrect, but I doubt the California schools are happy with this rule. It allows Phil Knight to pay for any California high school athlete and his or her parents to make an official recruiting visit to Oregon. This rule is especially valuable for a program like Oregon that recruits far from its own campus and has generous donors who will fund those official visits in any sport, and not just football or basketball.

In recent years most top schools recruit nationally anyways. Especially Stanford (which actually isn't in much of a recruiting hotbed - the recruit-rich regions of CA are 8 hours away).

The schools hurt most by this will be the 2nd tier schools in recruiting hotbeds. SDSU, SMU, Houston, TCU, Baylor, UCF, USF, Tulane, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Cincinnati. (3rd and 4th-tier schools won't be hurt as much because they usually get under-the-radar recruits anyways)
