Wow. Big, strong kid. I'm presuming he's a power bat. Wonder why he's not going into football at the college level.
Because he’s a baseball kid who wants to play baseball. 5’10, 200lbs.
He committed to Rice for baseball after his best buddy and teammate, Jackson Kiddy, committed. Of course, Bragga changed that...but currently Martin is still committed.

Got a nice 2020 commit today in Dickinson’s Guy Garibay. Perfect Game shows “schools interested” as Baylor, ULL, TCU and Texas (in addition to Rice).

This has been bothering me for a couple of years now. Can we please change the title of this thread to simply Baseball Recruiting?

+1
The fact the Owls are still recruiting for 2017 may explain some of the problem.

2019 commit from Tyler LaRue. 6’2 220lb catcher from Kendalia, TX. Plays travel for Lonestar Baseball.
Nice video here: http://members.baseballfactory.com/playe...ea338f6aa5
Looks like his dad is Jason LaRue. MLB catcher for the Reds (99-06), Royals (07), and Cardinals (08-10)

Awesome pickup. May be a draft risk but IIRC his dad played at DBU, so maybe he'll encourage his son to go the college route.

Perfect transitional timing-- he'll come in to back up Collins as Frazier and DiCap move on.

Did we not sign anybody today or is our SID just being lazy?

RE: Baseball Recruiting
Who knows. There was a ridiculous tweet saying we're excited about the early commits, and be on the lookout for our full incoming recruiting class in the weeks ahead.
I responded to the tweet saying that most other programs are posting their commitments; why do we have to wait for "the weeks ahead" to learn about ours?
The only plausible explanation is that we didn't do very well in the early signing period for next year's incoming class.

FYI, for those who didn't know, Cory Barton, our new pitching coach, is heading up recruiting, as he did at McNeese St. and last year at LaTech....

The only other thing I can think of is that we’re trying to hit the JuCo circuit hard right now and get some folks to enroll in January to help us for the upcoming season so they’re holding announcement till then..
Still very odd.

Bragga is definitely targeting an ace pitcher and an outfielder from the JUCO ranks for next year's incoming class....and with Canterino and Moss likely gone after this season, it's not a bad strategy.

RE: Baseball Recruiting
One reason is that most kids who are “signing” with Rice are taking the financial aid option rather than athletic money. This means there’s no NLI to sign. Another reason is that Bragga pulled some longtime commits offers very late so that leaves some holes to fill. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again....pulling offers as one of the first acts of business in a state like Texas is a BAD idea. Coaches talk down here. It’s not Tennessee Tech.

Wasn't one of the kids who was coming here Matt Williamson? He signed with Harvard today.
I may have the name wrong and I don't feel like looking back through this thread.

Timothy Williamson from Tomball Memorial. He WAS a Rice commit.
This will be a recurring theme now that word is out that Rice commitments are a one way street.

RE: Baseball Recruiting
A guy who retweeted Barton’s tweet and upon further investigation, appear to be part of the 2019 class:
-Eric Benitez (C, RHP), Rosharon, TX (Plays for Marucci Elite)
Another guy who signed was Quinton Martin out of Sweeny (3B).
Also Christian Cienfuegos from Goose Creek Memorial (IF).
