Great pickup nonetheless.
Not according to Kendall. He didn't have a single AB or fielding attempt in 2020. I'm assuming he'll apply for a redshirt. Similar to the waiver granted Josh Pettitte, when he transferred here after sitting out his Freshman year at Baylor after his first TJS.
Correction: He did redshirt this past season as a true Freshman, so he actually has all 4 years of eligibility remaining.

RE: Baseball Recruiting
I am not sure you can transfer and immediately be eligible due to a redshirt. I don't remember if Josh being eligible had something to do with him being injured and unable to play. I will say that if he is all that and stays healthy, he will be on campus no more than 2 years. I don't understand redshirting top line players in baseball, as they will leave in three years if drafted high. Ole Miss must have also had players at 2B and 3B if he could not get any playing time, unless he was hurt.

Yeah, their 2B was also a JR all-american who was hitting even better than the SS, if you can believe that.

Actually, their starting second baseman this year was Peyton Chatagnier a true freshman from Cy Fair. His proud grandfather is (retired) Dr. Brian Powers, a West U.- ite.

RE: Baseball Recruiting
Great news-- Gneiting is returning to Reckling for a final season...
Quote:Mark Berman
@MarkBermanFox26
OF Bradley Gneiting, in the NCAA Transfer Portal as a grad transfer,decided to return to
@RiceBaseball
for his final year of eligibility:”I have some unfinished business.I think Coach Bragga can turn things around&start a new playoff trend of going to regionals 26 straight years”
...Edwards and Gneiting have now announced their return. The only question now is Comeaux and, given that he's graduated and already has a good job offer, I don't think the odds are high. However, 3B is Bulman's natural position, so he would slip into that spot if Braidon chooses not to return.

We might need some pitching (unless some freshmen are ready to contribute right away) but we do seem to have the makings of a pretty decent batting lineup.

I think the pitching will be at least mediocre, and far better than this year. In addition to Brogden (who was our breakout player this past season) and DeLeon (a solid Sunday starter, IMO), we will hopefully finally have Garcia and Wood back. Add to that 3 quality pitchers (one potentially elite) in the incoming recruiting class, plus another 3 transfers (2 grad transfers), I think we'll be in decent shape. Even Greenwood, Larzabal and Deskin showed progress this past shortened season, and Cienfuego was a revelation. All should reinforce the bullpen.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but we picked up what appears to be a good pitcher from UPenn (thanks to the odd aspect of Ivy athletes not getting the extra year due to the virus). He's from Georgetown, TX so it's a homecoming of sorts. Before the season ended prematurely, he managed to throw 8 shutout innings with 8Ks against one of our conference foes, FIU. Last season he was tied for the best record in the Ivies.

Coach Bragga is really high on him. He had an up and down several games this shortened season, but was consistently good last year as a Junior.

It was -- in Walt's April 29 post #502 -- but it's always nice to read good stuff, even when it's a repeat.

Baseball recruiting is just dumb at this point. 2023 commit Shouldn’t be able to have contact with players until junior year.

Has Knox Casey committed yet? I think he would be class of '32

I think it's Connor that would be Class of '32. Knox, I think, would be Class of '35. I hope the Owls are on them both!

100% agree on this!!! Love the effort by the coaches but it’s getting out of hand when offers are made to 15 yr olds. What happens if kid doesn’t develop the way you projected him? I know this is where recruiting is heading but risk seems too high for both kid and Rice. Just my opinion.
