RE: And btw Spin Room. Did anybody even try those practice tests?
Go back and try to answer the 1st question. I can tell you why no matter what you answer it is ambiguous. It's a horse **** test.
Btw
Thank you for at least trying to give an answer

I opened up a couple of the practice tests and answered the first few questions........it was obvious that I hadn't done some of the stuff for 40 years, particularly the math and science stuff. Interestingly enough, what I do as a vocation for a long time now would be considered a technical job - I have to do trig, geometry and understand metallurgical properties of metals, etc...............

I looked at the 12th grade math and science tests.
On the math test, the first question was unlike anything I had ever seen before (and I have a BA in Math). The closest thing I could recall was what we studied in Real Analysis which is typically a 4th year math major requirement.
On science, I was surprised by the questions on cosmology, astrophysics and nucleosynthesis. Seems fairly advanced for 12th grade.
I guess my reaction is one of encouragement. If (some) 12th graders are experiencing this depth of material, the schools are doing a better job than I have been giving them credit for.

What makes me upset is I have covered everything this year that is on this test. Some questions are asked in a way that tries to trick you. Take prokaryote vs. eukaryotes. I teach kids that pro means before and eu means true. Karyo is Latin for kernel. So prokaryotes evolved before the nucleus. They are simple and have no membraned bound organelles. They do have some rudimentary ribosomes and photosynthetic bacteria have rudimentary chloroplast like structures that can convert CO2 into sugar. Now on that one where they want you o place a check mark next to it if they have it. The Key says that they should check mark ribosomes next to Prokaryotes. The way I have taught my kids is that the only ribosomes that are NOT membraned bound can be in prokaryotes. It's a question in a grey area that is meant to confuse kids. I can see why kids wouldn't check Ribosomes next to prokaryotes by the way I have taught them. It's not that the material wasn't covered. It's ambiguous. Prokaryotes do not have membraned bound organelles.
