The real story is Hamels doing his best Verlander circa 2017 impression
Hamels' performance was overshadowed by Scherzer and Bote, for sure, but Bote's story is real and relevant as well. Dude wasn't on the Cubs' top 30 prospects list in February and now he's a valuable glove and bat off the bench for a playoff team, maybe even a starter.
Also, what Bote did on Sunday hasn't been done since 1936.
I'm just pissed because i dropped that Dog Hamels in mid July as he was killing my squad, now he's Verlander part 2!

I gotcha. He's been just what the Cubs needed. He was a great pickup, and now we need to get the rest of the rotation in shape. Darvish is finally going for a rehab assignment this week, and there have been some positive signs for Hendricks.

Yankees can't catch a break, looks like Didi headed to DL, he and Judge are the heart and soul of this team and both out for the foreseeable future.

Daniel Murphy to Chicago...I like it on the surface. I hope it is a reaction to Russell's performance and not a reaction to Bryant's shoulder.

Yeah you have to wonder where he plays! A good move nonetheless, but he's an everyday player!

I’m sure he’ll play second base. Javy is the best defensive SS and third baseman on the team, so he can play wherever. It’s more interesting where Zobrist plays and gets his ABs. Z is having a career year and appears to be odd man out, or at least getting a lot less PT.
Glad to see them make a move because the Cardinals are rolling.

Remember the discussion we had where i said Russell is a bust? They essentially just recruited over him for the stretch run of a WS push.

Hmm, I recall the discussion. Probably the fan base in me, but I’m still not ready to call him a bust. I don’t think his struggles are injury related entirely, but his middle finger has been a concern for a while. That said, with or without Murphy, our best lineup (offensively) didn’t include him.
I still love his glove and range, but as Maddon says, you can shake as tree and 100 global gloves will fall out. Finding a bat is much more difficult.

Things might be getting more interesting than i thought, with Tampa sweeping the Sox and the Yankees doing the same to Baltimore, things have gotten a bit more interesting.

if you make it to the majors and can't hit, in order to stick you have to be good defensively. They expected him to be elite on both sides of the ball, he's not.

21Sep2018 - The day I stopped caring about Addison Russell's career. I'm not sure if he's through in MLB, but I think he's done with the Chicago Cubs.
I know these allegations were out there last year, but until last night his ex-wife wasn't willing to cooperate in the investigation.

Yeah. Not good for him. For the Cubs to put him on admin leave is big. Compound that with we all know how "allegations" roll these days. Regardless of his guilt or innocence, the public court of opinion doesn't weigh in with blind justice. If there's evidence... he'll be the MLB's Ray Rice.
Luckily for the Cubs, they traded for Murphy and have Bote. We have pieces to cover over Russell. The Cubs will be fine, IMO.
Like Bricks, his career doesn't concern me much now. If he's guilty, there should be repercussion. If he's innocent, it's going to have to play out legally and go from there. As of right now, the Cubs seem to be moving on, thus so am I.

The final weekend is going to be exciting for the NL. As much as I wanted the Brewers to lose last night, there was some joy in watching the Cardinals hurt their playoff chances with a guy falling down as he rounded third.
Brewers are hot. If the Cubs don't hold onto the Central I don't see them making a postseason run.

Yanks are hanging onto that #1 WC spot, but it's been ugly! At this point it's looking like it will be Happ in a winner take all WC game

Rumors of Maddon's retirement our swirling...would be very disappointing to see him walk away. I love having him leading this team. Girardi is a rumored replacement. He's a Chicago guy, so I understand the connection, but I am sure Theo would be very thorough in a search. We're not the Yankees, or Cardinals for that matter, but these have been the golden years of Cubs' baseball, and this year may have been Maddon's best job given all of the injuries, slow starts and expectations.
Our rotation is set up pretty well win or lose today, and Quintana has been excellent against the Brewers. Hopefully, he's up for the moment this afternoon. Go Cubs!

Their offense has been inconsistent most of the season. That was pretty much what I've been watching since July. They're either hitting or they're not, but there isn't much manufacturing of runs.
I'm not optimistic about making it back to the NLCS, but their rotation is set up nicely. Lester in a win-or-go-home game tomorrow night, and then Hendricks (their best arm right now) and Hamels ready to go against the Brewers in games 1 & 2 if we make it. If a bat other than Rizzo and Baez comes alive, we can still get hot.
