$45 million is a stack of cash. However, not all of that money is guaranteed. Does the non guaranteed money alter his percentage at all or no?

What do you mean it's not all guaranteed? All guaranteed in baseball, unless they opt out in which case they would likely be re-signing for more.

I would guess he get's his cut every year when the players get paid. Kind of like an insurance agent when you renew.(although that's not guaranteed)

Ah. My mistake. I was thinking that MLB had similar contracts to the rest of pro sports and only a certain percentage is guaranteed money.

I wish! It's all guaranteed unfortunately. That's why the MLB is highly recognized as the most powerful union in the world.

Houston has the absolute HAMMER dropped on them, GM and manager suspended for a year, 2 first round picks and 5 mil. Sounds like Cora is going to get it even worse for being involved not only there but also in Boston

RE: 2016-2019 MLB Thread
I've a lot of people online, including former major leaguers, defending these guys and passing it off as stealing signs. Maybe I'm in the minority, but there is a huge difference between setting up a video feed on the catcher and relaying pitches to hitters in real-time versus, say, a player relaying them from second base. It's wild to me that those two scenarios would even be compared.

Tim Flannery said, "We had an advance scout that could watch your 3rd base coach for 3 days and be real close to getting his signs." This happens at low levels; in HS, we rotated signs and had dummy signs. The point isn't that the opposition should stop trying, or close their eyes for purity. Gamesmanship is expected, but there is a difference between advance scouting and cheating. It's okay to scout tape for the upcoming game against Hofstra so that we can prepare defensively, but it's not okay to bug Mihalich so that are privy to his communication during timeouts or halftime.

I don't think you are in the minority at all. There are specific rules against using videos for these sorts of things, but they chose to do so anyways. Stealing signs has always been a part of the game, but not this way. Big difference IMO. Mirrors the stupidity of the Patriots recording stuff they were not supposed too. Only difference is MLB is actually taking a stand.

I'm 100% in agreement with you bricks. Stealing signs or tips as a runner and trying to relay those to the guys at the plate... ehhh. But setting up an elaborate scheme involving video feeds, computers just beyond the locker room, banging on instruments to relay those signs, that's downright absolute cheating.

Furthermore, it baffles me that some of these clowns aren't banned from baseball. Yes, I know that's the nuclear option but we're talking about a team that won probably two world championships using this scheme, and how many player stats at the plate have been boosted thanks to this nefarious operation.

We have a guy named Pete Rose that all evidence points to the fact that he never cheated or gambled on games he played it, just gambled on other baseball games. That dude is banned for life, should be a hall of famer based on his playing career alone and these guys will be allowed to coach teams in a year after point blank being caught cheating? Not even good at covering it up like the Patriots, just absolutely busted cheating for wins, stats, and championships -- DESTROYING the integrity of the game for the past several years, and they'll be allowed to coach next year? Not to mention all of the players that benefited from that travesty that are all getting off without repercussions. What in the actual f***?! Is baseball serious with this?

They'd have to ban a LOT of people if they went that route. Not that I'm opposed to it at all. But institutional cheating requires a LOT of people. And once you ban a bunch of people from one org you'd have to do it to a bunch of others when all this shakes out.

Not saying its right. But it's far easier to ban one legend, like Rose, than ban a bunch of people involved in a huge scheme.

Even when the 8 Black Sox players were banned for life by the MLB, only a few other non-Black Sox players got banned for life gambling during that 1919-1924 period as well, most notably Hal Chase.

This type of scandal would require dozens and dozens of people to be banned for life.

Also, you notice, the Commish is going for the quick wins? Any player sanctions would be long and drawn out by a fight with the players association.

Things just got a little worse for the Mets, as they decided to part ways with Carlos Beltran as manager just before his managing career even started.

Due to Hinch and Cora getting the pink slip, this wasn't all that unexpected but still not great for a franchise that had built some excitement by hiring him.

Is he the final job cut here? Think there will be more?

The apologize to Darvish thing went right over my head. Are you insinuating the Cards are cheating too? I have yet to see them connected(doesn't mean they won't be)

You were critical of the Cubs signing Darvish in large part to the 2017 World Series. Knowing now the extent to which the Astros were cheating, I think it's fair to say that labeling him as a choker was inaccurate.

I have no evidence that the Cards have done anything similar regarding stealing signs, but there isn't a franchise that cheated more during the roid era, plus the hacking scandal they were penalized for 3 years ago.

It's of Altuve after he hit the HR off of Chapman in the 2019 ALCS. As he's approaching the plate, he tells his teammates not to rip his jersey off, and someone claiming to be Beltran's niece is claiming that Altuve and Bregman wore electronic devices that buzzed from the video guy stealing signs. There's also a picture of Reddick floating around with something taped to his chest in a post game interview.

Oh wow. That's nuts. I standby my opinion that guys like Altuve, Bregman, and all the other players that significantly gained from this should be banned from baseball. I don't care about how many "dozens" it may be. Clean the entire thing up or players will keep doing crap like this b/c they will feel that they can get away with it. For many years baseball has held it's head so high on integrity of the game, etc. If they let these players get a pass it's disgusting.

IMO, this is 100% worse than guys like McGuire, Sosa and all the others that used Creatine, etc. This gave the players a much more significant advantage at the plate.
