Quick Note from the Mods re: Trolls
Unfortunately, the Mods had to lock the A&M game thread. You would think that a hard-fought victory over one of our oldest rivals would be a cause for celebration, not personal attacks against other posters and the airing of dirty laundry.
Here is the deal. Since the days of Owlzone, the Rice forum has generally been a place where Owl fans can engage in intelligent dialogue with each other. We have had our share of meltdowns of course, but for the most part the tone has always been respectful and courteous.
Moderating this board has always been fairly easy - the trolls show up, we give them a warning, then ban them if they keep it up. Admittedly we have always had a long leash. This is because there have been a few posters who were thought to be up to no good when they first arrived, but actually turned out to be good people.
Effective immediately: anything that even remotely resembles a personal attack is going to get you sent to time-out. If you have a personal issue with another user on this board, take it to PM or email.
Airing your (or the athletic program's) dirty laundry, unsubstantiated allegations against other posters, name-calling, and trolling is going to also get you sent to thinking time.
If you are new to the Parliament - we welcome you to our board, but you will be on a very short leash. I'd estimate that 99% of the reported posts on this forum are from new accounts. Not saying you can't disagree or challenge other posters but do so in a respectful manner please. The Mods have discussed it and we're going to have a really quick trigger finger on new accounts reported for trolling.
Veterans - thanks for making Parliament great. Please help out the Mods by reporting questionable posts or users that you think are here to troll. Follow up with a PM to one of the Mods as well, especially if it's urgent. I usually log on from the iPhone app, which doesn't show me the reported posts. We have handled every single reported incident, but I can tell you I rarely read every post of every thread. Don't assume that somebody else will report AUP violations. Please don't do it in public or in a thread. There is a very high probability that none of us will see it in a thread.
If anybody has any issues with this - please PM the Mods and we will be happy to discuss offline.
