IMO you'll see balkanization long before you see a situation like the French Revolution.

The odds of a repeat? I don't think Villanova can do it again next year, personally.

Maybe 10 years ago when the GOP was perceived to be different from the Dems. Today, I think the veneer is being stripped away.

We aren't even close to being there. The masses are subdued with drugs, as much food as they want, and handouts. Extreme poverty, famine, and starvation led to the French Revolution. Some of you need to take a step back from the computer and go for a walk.

I didn't say that it was an imminent event to expect in the near future. However, a lot can happen in a generation. Hell, the stock market crash of 1929 kicked off a chain reaction that caused roughly 15 years of misery. With the huge national debt we have today, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the rest of the world gives the U.S. a "no faith" vote of confidence and ultimately put our economy in a tail spin.

If the US economy goes down most every other major economy will go with us.

This is exactly true. There is still no better situation than the US economy and no sunnier alternate place to park investments. Our poor decisions have made quality of life decline a bit over the last 20 years, but we are nowhere near revolution.
