Let the work begin

I was about to post the same thing. I was Downtown this morning and was pleasantly surprised that they've started work so soon. That didn't take long at all.

When is the estimated grand opening?

BTW, Peabody Place retail didn't fail because of the lack of open-air nor did it fail as mentioned in the Daily News due to the recession.

It failed because the city council passed the no cruising ordinance.

Peabody Place was vibrant and active until the ordinance passed. People began parking their cars and started hanging out at Peabody Place.

Many of these people were gang bangers. It got so bad the mall places signs at each of the entrances listing banned items. This list included gang-related clothing. It also banned weapons except for those carried by legal permit holders. Then they later banned those as well.

Our family religiously frequented the mall. Every Tiger home basketball game we would park in one of the garages, have dinner (which validated our parking pass) and went to the game.

As gang bangers started hanging out in increasing numbers the paying-customer crowds rapidly diminished.

That's why it failed. People quit spending money there because they quit going there.

My then 7 yr old son was told by by security that he was not allowed to wear his hat backwards. This while walking with his fam and older sibs, and he was the youngest of the group.

Read that. Said they contacted Carlise Corp about One Beale but they never made a formal pitch. Not sure what that means for One Beale. Do they have someone already in line or do they want to go in a different direction? I'd like to see another article here soon about the future of the project.

RE: ServiceMaster
One Beale should be more attractive with another major company headquartered downtown.

There has been a total culture shift there in corporate in 10 years, not sure about in the 7 brand business.

I know they also brought their IT back to Memphis to be under one local department. They were outsourcing most of it before and it wasn't working out very well. Went to a jobs fair a couple of years ago at their Ridgeway office. It was crazy, easily a thousand job hunters were there.
