RE: UAB Coaching Search
I think there are some obvious high-major assistants that will get a look. Several are being talked about for other openings like ours. These are a few of the names that are being bounced around the country for jobs; Chris Caputo (Miami), Baker Dunleavy (Villanova), Steve Henson (Oklahoma), Jeff Capel (Duke), Joe Pasternack (Arizona), Kurtis Townsend (Kansas), Dwayne Stevens (Michigan St). I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of former head coaches might be attracted to the job as well, like Capel, Horn, Ford or Sendek. I could even see a young up-and-coming assistant, like Haase was, getting the job. That's where Ehsen, Greg Heiar (Wichita St) & Travis Steele (Xavier) fit in. Since I will not be involved in the interview process, I will refrain from saying who I would hire, but I believe that UAB will attract a quality candidate pool & hopefully Ingram makes a good decision on which one best fits our program. For the record, I want to thank Coach Haase for all his efforts. I give him a great deal of credit for revitalizing the program. I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.

Could Andy Kennedy even be a possibility? The money might be a stumbling block.

Obviously I don't expect us to pay the new coach $1M/yr right away, but I hope the other investments we've been making in the program continue ie; chartering flights, expanded recruiting budget, etc. That will go along way in attracting a quality candidate. Other facility upgrades made during Haase's tenure like the locker room/team lounge and the new lights in Bartow should help.

I like Rob as well.
That style of play is getting harder to successfully run with the rule changes.

RE: UAB Coaching Search
I would like to see us look at head coaches at schools such as UALR or UTC...where they might seem like lateral moves to some, the pay increase (I assume there is one, but don't know) may be convincing

From Scot Harrison (Matt & Scot show on Jox):
"I'm hearing there is a big push from key UAB boosters to elevate Assoc HC Rob Ehsan. Recruited most of the core, could keep them together."
"Also, Ehsan told us on Jox he & Haase share play calling 50/50 on most days."

Seems too young. Not enough experience.
TJ graduated Arkansas in 2002. He has spent the last 13 years coaching 40 minutes of hell. So TJ is ~35 years old

I had this same thought.

if we are serious about basketball we will pay at least 1 million dollars
I think that's approaching our ceiling of how much we can pay. Unfortunately I think we have to start lower than that to have room to grow when the coach has success.

RE: UAB Coaching Search
I like Ehsan because it will help keep this roster intact, he seems bright and personable, and from all accounts he's a very good recruiter. He also worked under Gary Williams at Maryland for 3 ir 4 years so he's done more than be an assistant at a mid major. I'm not sure if he's the best long term hire though.

UAB Coaching Search
If it is someone like Ehsan I think we start a little lower maybe around 650-700k. If it is someone with HC experience we could probably go closer to 900k. I agree that if we are serious we don't need to go much below 1 million.
Ehsan should definitely be interviewed and should probably be a finalist. Would like to see us talk to a few others as well though.

How is an Ingram and Eshan interview going to shake out ?
Ingram is the same guy that has been blocking giving you a raise for the last year, and now he's the gatekeeper for the job you want...

Champlin just tweeted Wilbrun was leaving with Haase.
He did not comment on Ehsan.

RE: UAB Coaching Search
I think a high major assistant like Haase is probably how we go.
If we did go for a current or former head coach, who would be a Win The Press Conference hire for Ingram?
Would Andy Kennedy or Mike Anderson pull a Jamie Dixon and get to UAB while the getting is good?
Probably not but what the heck, anything is possible. The local business leaders that have stepped up for football seem to have a way of making things good things happen. Hopefully they will have strong input into the basketball program too.
