He's a very good young coach, but I doubt we hire an assistant directly from UAT in any case. If he was at any other school...maybe.

Agreed.

I wouldn't let a splash hire, a former player, the current roster or anything else get in the way of the RIGHT FIT for us...this will be huge

I'm thinking it will take one heck of a "splash hire" to wash away the current assistant coach we already have in place as interim HC.

This is my favorite scenario!

I'd take this over a "splash" hire. There's a lot to be said for consistency.

I would not be shocked for Ray Ray to claim that now football is back we don't have enough to put into basketball like he had planned. Expect this to get bungled

Yes, but it will be data-driven, part of a strategic plan, and it will move UAB forward.

RE: UAB Coaching Search
Ehsan makes sense. Haase underperformed with this year's roster and was out coached by harper. If Ehsan can make smart in game personnel moves we could have much more success next year.

Haase was a favorite bc most people thought he would stick around. His only real on the court success was a crazy couple of days last year. He left the program better than he found it but it couldn't get much worse. Sad to see him go only because his potential. his on the court accomplishments were good not great.

Can we steal a good coach from a rival C-USA school who wants to coach a better roster? Are there any worth consideration?

No most should have been fired several years ago.

However a former CUSA coach is out there, and a good one.

Well, he's an experienced recruiter. Not sure if he could arrange a whole rosters worth of job offers in Mt Brook though.

I think that the big boosters are going to be keeping an eye on this process. I'm anything but a big booster, but I'll be blowing the whistle and raising six kinds of hell if they start playing games.

I've always thought the only reason he would stick around was that he was mediocre. I always figured he would be gone the minute he found success. I thought this would year's finish bought us one more year, but I was wrong.

I also believe the next guy hired will be gone as soon as he is successful. Moving on is not a defect of the coach's character. It reflects on the type of program we are. Frankly, I don't want a coach who is willing to settle on being a CUSA coach all his life.

RE: UAB Coaching Search
I believe the talent on the court overcame the coaching a lot of times.

While it is great to play a lot of players, we had spells where forced subbing seemed to hurt us.

Then again, sometimes the subs helped when the 1st team struggled.
