RE: UAB Coaching Search
Coaching staffs, like people, have strengths and weaknesses. I think this staff was better at recruiting than floor coaching. If you go by stars next to names, we have one of the more talented rosters we've ever had. Ehsan already had a reputation as a great recruiter before he came to UAB. Not sure about Haase and UNC.

Based on what I've seen over the last four years, I would rather lose Haase than Ehsan. Recruiting to UAB isn't easy and I think Rob deserves a lot of credit.

We could also probably get him for reasonable $ and that's not a small consideration with all the facility needs across the department.

Ehsan seems like a smart move.

Not sure. He was at Virginia Tech for 1 or 2 years under Seth Greenburg, not that that counts for anytbing. I guess the one knock against Ehsan is that he's never been a number one assistant under a big time coach like Haase or Mike Anderson was. He started his assistant coaching career at Maryland and that was in the last few years of Gary Williams' career, so I don't know how much he learned from him. I have heard that he would call 50 percent of our plays. Maybe Haase was grooming him to be the next guy here...

Dude you barely knew Haase was on the bench. He was in no disrespect Rob Williams.

RE: UAB Coaching Search
I think if Haase has anything to do with it, Ehsan will be our next head coach. Ehsan isn't a splashy hire, but he keeps continuity in the program, and most importantly, we don't have to rely on our AD finding a coach (even though consultants are finding the candidates, do we really trust Ingram to make the best hire?).

I don't really know that much about Ehsan, but he's responsible for the majority(all?) of our roster, and putting quality players on the court is half the battle. Ehsan is also fairly young in the coaching world, so just the fact that he has put himself in this position to be a candidate means he's done something right.

Hire Steve Forbes at East Tenn State. Great recruiter and great coach. Served a show cause because he covered for Pearl about his party for recruits and then Pearl screwed him over. Was a great Juco coach. Tons of connections including possibly Ingram from their time at UT

I've heard that mentioned. His hiring at ETSU last year was praised. Interesting candidate.

Assoc. Head Coach Ehsan was my first choice too. Great recruiter. He is the one that got Robert Brown to come to UaB. Team and other assistants already know him and will stay if they still feel the "family" is intact.

Hiring Ehsan seems like such an easy move for Ingram. Boosters are happy, fans are happy, team is happy, save a little money.

I guess he should do his due diligence and see who else is out there but there certainly seems to be a lot of positives to hiring Ehsan.

RE: UAB Coaching Search
The other thing about hiring Ehsan over say an assistant for a major school is you have a guy who understands the challenges of coaching at a midmajor, especially UAB. Obviously he was willing to stay and take the job he's embracing those challenges knowing full well what they are. Haase was clearly frustrated by those challenges because he had never experienced them, though he handled them well.

Seems easy, but Ingram may want to put his own stamp on things and bring in an outsider he's connected with.

From what I can tell you are right. I have yet to read of any resistance to Ehsan. I agree that for the sake of conducting a legitimate hiring, others should be considered. From what I gather, Ehsan is the odds-on favorite.

Right. I'm my prior post I meant to state if he willing to stay and take the job. That's not a foregone conclusion.

Why has Jeff Wulbrun, the other UaB Associate Head Coach not been mentioned by anyone? Educate me. Ehsan is my first choice but just wanted to cover all the bases close to home as we look around. I'm not opposed to a look outside. I wish Andy Kennedy was a possibility too.

Edit: I see Jeff Wulbrun has already agreed to go with Haase to Stanford.
