you know what I hate. When I post something, and then a ******* moderator doesn't approve that post, but then posts the same damn thing that I posted themselves.

RE: stevers thoughts
gotta love Big East fans who see you know actual data and just don't want to hear it at all. I mean, the recruiting. Big East schools last 3 years- only 7/41 4 or 5 star guys been signed after November 2. With all 7 of those being St John's or Marquette. But this year, it's going to be different? There's only 35 guys left, and not many of them are even considering Big East schools.

I get the hope. But data just isn't supporting reality.

Big East is looking good.

National Rankings this week
1) Villanova
10) Creighton
17) Xavier
18) Butler

And Seton Hall just had a nice win over #16 (and previously undefeated) South Carolina.
Looking forward to conference play.

RE: stevers thoughts
yeah, things looking really good.

I think the big question for conference play is this.......

Will those top 4 teams dominate the conference- going like 10-0 or 9-1 vs everyone else, or will there not be that huge gap? OR if Seton Hall turns out good- do the top 5 dominate the rest?

I've loved how good the Big East has scheduled. Played the most games per school against the conferences projected to have multiple NCAA teams. Like Saturday where the conference had a great schedule- with almost every game vs a pretty good game.

any win over Syracuse is a GREAT win.

Now for the scarier game- UNC Greensboro comes in on Thursday night. Those games have killed us lately.

yeah, pretty realistic. If Seton Hall had been able to do better in Orlando, they'd probably be ranked now too.

Clearly, they were waiting for a quality opponent...

That's assuming Syracuse is a quality opponent.

RE: stevers thoughts
well a bad day today with PC losing and DePaul as well- and almost a horrible day but Seton Hall was able to pull thru.

Ken Pom's projection IMO would be absolute worst case scenario.
Villanova 27-3 plus Virginia game 15-3 conference
Butler 23-7 12-6
Xavier 21-9 plus Cincy game 11-7 conference
Creighton 23-7 11-7
Marquette 18-12 9-9
Seton Hall 18-12 8-10
Georgetown 16-14 plus UConn game 8-10 conference
Providence 18-13 8-10 conference
St John's 11-20 5-13 conference
DePaul 9-22 2-16 conference

A finish like this would make it real possible to get only 4 teams in.

BUT- the 1 good thing is the projection is 89-91. So 1 team would have to get another win. And if ANY of Marquette, Seton Hall, Or PC for sure- or Georgetown if they beat UConn- they would be tourney bound with that extra win IMO.

RE: stevers thoughts
what is bad is what Ken Pom has if you look at their absolute projections. Where you just look at the w/l and don't consider the %'s.

if you do that:
Nova 18-0 30-0 plus Virginia game
Butler 14-4 25-5
Creighton 13-5 25-5
Xavier 12-6 22-8 plus Cincy game
Marquette 9-9 18-12
Georgetown 8-10 16-14 plus UConn game
Providence 8-10 18-13
Seton Hall 7-11 17-13
St John's 2-16 8-23
DePaul 0-18 7-24

This is the type of scenario that could easily happen, and from a perspective of getting teams in the tourney, really make it almost impossible to get 5. Maybe Marquette could get in, but looking at their W/l they'd have 2 home wins over Creighton and Xavier as their top wins.

I'm just happy conference play is here. I'm confident everything will play out just fine, and that we will still get 5-6 teams in. 7 was a pipe dream, but with DePaul and St. Johns being awful this year, that will give 1-8 four wins in conference.

The middle of the league will be very interesting for sure.

getting 5-6 teams in will totally hinge on how much separation there is from 1-4 to the rest of the league. If the top 4 teams(who will have 12 losses guaranteed playing each other)- only lose 15 games combined, it's going to be pretty close to impossible to get 6. And 5 will really hinge on who that 5th is.
