Really...I'm not in the loop or whatever but I am certain that IF and WHEN someone comes along with a ticket into the Big 12 and it is FOR REAL and not just a possibility, the money guys will whip their checkbooks out with no hesitation and write the check. It is just absurd to think that if a REAL OPPORTUNITY comes our way, nobody with deep pockets will say "Nope, not this time...."

IF we get into the Big XII and that's why this choice was made that'd clean things up. But we aren't talking about the 10.6 M. That is SPENT MONEY. We're talking about something more along the lines of $4 M which is probably what a new five year deal for an up and coming young coach would cost.

No one here knows that the reason they are keeping Paz is so that they can pursue the Big XII dream.

It all depends on how you perceive our chances during realignment. If you think we are not getting into the big XII and will never get into the BIG XII. Then either the administration can't raise the money or will lose future money because the Big Boosters are backing Pastner.

If, however, you think are chances are good to quite good that we WILL get in the BIG XII, then the analysis is different. We are going to suck next year no matter what. That is also a sunk cost. The coach we could realistically hire would not be as good as if we waited a year and were about to join a P5 conference. The PROJECTED revenues would be better and make paying off Pastners contract less onerous. In that scenario, waiting is the only thing that makes sense.

Look, I may be wrong, and he may be fired tomorrow and we get in, he may be retained and we don't. But to me the lack of action on Pastner, in spite of the overwhelming evidence that this is not working out, is the BEST sign that something is about to happen with realignment.
