To be fair, running in a straight line wearing a tracksuit and track shoes is a lot different than running in full pads, getting off of blocks and trying to tackle someone. Nobody even knows where they have envisioned him playing position wise. I'd take his track numbers with a grain of salt.

LB/DE Matt Lorbeck from Wisconsin. He lists himself as a MLB, but NIU lists him as a DE. I think he is very underrated.

I agree mostly. Football speed and track speed are very different. But they do correlate a little bit. If he ran a 22s 200m the kids fast as hell. And you'd see that on the field. Conversely, I only mentioned it because its not just slow, its really really slow. Im 48 and I can run 200m in the mid 25 second range. That's how slow it is. I'm by no means judging his ability to play LB. He may be very quick laterally and play great in a crowd, but his top speed is lacking. It's the only pertinent info thing I could find on the kid. Might mean he ends up at DE.

Was just talking to someone else about this.... They did the same thing w Cochoran a few years back. I feel like our LBs have been small, slower and undersized since Novak left when we had Nick Duffy and Brian Atkinson back there. I know its because of the spread offenses in the MAC and they are moving safeties to LB to cover (Cheren for example) but Lorbeck and Cochoran are both fast and athletic. I think their size would bring a lot to that group personally. I'd rather covert TEs to DEs instead of MLBs...

I agree with this. It takes too long to grow them into DE's and they seem to lose some speed in the process. They are both quick twitch guys and would look great at LB.

Carey just tweeted that Tucker wraps up their class. That means Nixon officially a no go as expected and no other surprises.

RE: 2017 Official Verbal Thread
Only 22 announced. Add Jordan Robinson and Devin Webster who I'm pretty sure are in school and it's still only 24. Up until the last two years we've always brought in 30 to 40 including walkons. Here's how many have been brought in during the Carey era. These numbers aren't exact because some walkons come and go quickly but they provide a frame of reference.
2013 - 31
2014 - 42
2015 - 45
2016 - 27
2017 - 24
They brought in huge numbers a couple of years ago and smaller numbers recently. Not sure what it means, just interesting to me. Maybe they decided too many walkons were a waste of time and they've pared that back.

RE: 2017 Official Verbal Thread
22 commits and a couple of grey shirts from Florida. 2 things stick out to me, we really miss Thad Ward and his Florida recruiting and we usually have a lot of walk ons, mostly from Wisconsin. Some of these recruits may be walk ons also, but the class seems light numbers wise. I also think the coaches did a poor job with back up recruits as we always lose a couple of commits late, JMHO.
