RE: Blazer Invitational: WKU Game thread
I like all of your assessments. I really wondered all your long why coach was so insistent on playing Baxter and Mehinti together for such a long amounts of time. Williams is not the defender that Baxter is, and everyone knows that. However, I don't think he is bad on the fence, and I think his all-around game rink more to the table then Baxters does.

Mehinti needs to be a backup big man playing 15 minutes a game or so. He's just not very good. We have to hope he puts on even more weight and muscle in the offseason and can become an enforcer. I think that's his ceiling. He has hands of stone and no shooting touch whatsoever.

Baxter should transition to our sixth man/specialist role as a defensive player off the bench. Williams needs to usurp the primary scores role in the offense.

Also on attendance. It's both games counted not one. It was tickets sold plus people were coming and going. There is no way to get a good read on how many actually showed up but the number is higher what some think because people were coming and going for two games and lower than announced. You can't just look up and and be accurate. It's fluid for five hours.

Brown was 0-6 from behind the 3-point arc. Norton was 2-10. Lee was 2-6, and Williams was 1-4. That's a combined 5-26, or 19%. Even the Golden State Warriors lose when that shoot that poorly from downtown (see the recent GSW game at the Lakers).

WKU also made 11 more free throws than UAB, on 13 more chances.

UAB shot poorly and lost.

RE: Blazer Invitational: WKU Game thread
Our achilles heel the last two years has been our inability to contend with a team that can play and be physical in the paint. I know a lot of work was done to beef up our big men in the offseason, and you could look at the players and see the results, but that work didn't change anything on the court. We're not bringing anyone in next season that is going to help this situation so I guess the only thing that can be done is to continue to work with the guys we have and hope it gets better.

We couldn't get stops. That's it. Every time we made a big bucket to get close, and the crowd got to their feet, WKU answered with a bucket or free throws. Every. Single. Time

That was as thorough of a beat down as you will see in a conference tournament

The blocks we have seen this year from some of our players have really been exciting to watch. But solid, consistent defense, especially in the paint, is what wins championships.

WHEN brown is hot, UAB win all the time when brown is cold and he keep shooting we are struggling

it will be very good for the team to have long run in the NIT
Haase need to have his team ready at the beginning of the season if we want to have a small chance of an out large invitation
After the first game most realistic fans knew that UAB had to win the CUSA Tournament to make it to the real tournament

For the last 10 minutes of game time, dirk was the only one running after rebounds for UAB.

I think that number in part a symptom though.

We couldn't get anything going in the inside, so we're settling for not so great 3s. When the offense is flowing, we're only taking the good 3s.

Last 5 minutes of game time we were going for 3s as well trying to make up a deficit.
