Tammy Duckworth doesn't stand up for our veterans
Nice tweet from the Republican Senate Committee Tuesday (which they quickly deleted) saying Tammy Duckworth has a sad record of not standing up for our veterans.

Hilarious fail by the GOP. For those who don't know, Duckworth is a double amputee veteran, and our next Senator. I'm meeting her tomorrow and Friday!

I wasn't going to post it GSU because it is kind of petty crap, but after seeing yet another post by the others on Nancy Reagan's funeral (when Michelle Obama is going to be there), I couldn't resist. Maybe I'll start a website called trumpsgolfoutings.com and post everytime Donald Trump plays golf when he's president.

PS. My post wasn't directed at you, but rather at the subject matter itself.

This brings to mind the Georgia Senate race between Max Cleland and Sen. Saxby Chambliss from a pretty good Mary McGrory column that ran in the Washington Post way back when.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/art...Jun19.html

Quote:If the mugging of Sen. Max Cleland of Georgia is a fair indicator of what is to come, the fall elections will be ugly. Cleland, a decorated veteran and triple amputee, was attacked by his Republican opponent, Rep. Saxby Chambliss, "for breaking his oath to protect and defend the Constitution."

Quote:Max Cleland -- and it's not his style -- has begun to quote Shakespeare in a line from "Romeo and Juliet": "He jests at scars that never felt the wound."

Chambliss had a bad knee which kept him out of Vietnam.

I also found this interesting take on where that incident stands with regard to other GOP efforts to shame Dems for a lack of patriotism when it comes to national defense.

http://www.brendan-nyhan.com/blog/2007/1...d-ad-.html
Quote:As it turns out, while the ad did include nasty insinuations about Cleland's "courage to lead," a little-known Chambliss press release accusing Cleland of "breaking his oath to protect and defend the Constitution" by voting for a chemical weapons treaty was actually far worse -- here's what we wrote at Spinsanity:

[O]ne of Chambliss's ads included video footage of Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, which played while a voice-over suggested, "As America faces terrorists and extremist dictators, Max Cleland runs television ads claiming he has the courage to lead... Max Cleland says he has the courage to lead. But the record proves Max Cleland is just misleading." The images were subsequently deleted from the ad. Chambliss also issued a press release accusing Cleland of "breaking his oath to protect and defend the Constitution" based on an obscure 1997 vote in favor of an amendment to the chemical weapons treaty. The amendment, which passed with bipartisan support, deleted a clause banning weapons inspectors from a number of countries from being part of inspection teams in Iraq.

I'm including an updated version of my timeline of Republican attacks on dissent since 9/11 below the fold. If you read it over, I think you'll see that the Chambliss TV ad pales in comparison.
