If Jon Alger steered Jeff Bourne toward hiring a black coach we have much, much, much more serious problem in this administration.

OK, I will play along. I always feel that the best candidate should be hired regardless of race to fill HC positions at JMU......however this one was a bit different. With both EW and KB leaving this year --- JMU had ZERO minority coaches and that did need to be addressed with this hire. If this hire had not gone to a qualified black candidate every head coach at JMU would be white.........and that would NOT have been a good thing. It's just the way it worked out with EW and KB both leaving this year.

There can be some very valid arguments made in hiring a minority coach. So even if her steered him towards that decision I wouldn't have any issues with it. And When we hired EW , look at the results on the field, you cannot argue that at all. And maybe the only assistants Barkers knew were serious were all minorities.

That's how I read it- Rowe, Sanchez, etc.

No requirement was set as far as race of coach for men's basketball.
The men's basketball hire had very little involvement from President of school.

The woman's hire is a different story, the only reason O hasn't been hired yet is Presidents preference for woman coach. Which I can understand his position on, but rule is you hire best candidate regardless, which O is.

Agreed, just another example of his personal ideology being allowed to govern the athletic department.

That rule doesn't apply when you're a liberal diversity attorney. I can't believe that assclown is in charge of our beloved university.

Preference for a woman coach sounds like discrimination to me. Maybe Mr. Diversity should be terminated on the grounds of illegal discrimination in hiring.

I feel like if he really wanted diversity he would have a man coach the women, but he would also have a women coach the men.

Makes total sense because, ya know, having a man coach the women has worked out so horribly lately. Also, why would you hire the coach the players reportedly want in O? This guy HAS. TO. GO. If the BOV thinks he's the right fit for JMU I just have no idea what the hell is going on anymore.

The Next JMU MBB Head Coach
I'll wait until a hire is made before putting too much stock in this. It's obviously not a "written in stone" kind of thing as we recently replaced a somewhat successful female softball coach with a man.

For what it's worth, this is why I didn't think KB was a threat to leave for UVa - I don't think they'll hire a man for that job. But I don't think this is such an issue for JMU. I could be wrong. We'll see. I still think they'll hire O'Regan, but it's not realistic to think they'll just hire him with no application/interview process.

Alger should dictate a hermaphrodite or transgender coach for diversity purposes.

It sounds like discrimination because that's what it is. And most likely quite illegal. Makes me wonder if Alger is really dumb enough to say it out loud even if that's his preference.

I will continue to say- Bryce Drew should be our #1 target and Lonergan #2. This type of cache and creditability is what our program desperately needs at this time.

Meanwhile, watching Matt Brady on the sidelines on CBS - good win by Maryland against a good Indiana team.
