Yes and when we have been a University for 47 years I am sure we will look exactly the same....
Considering the growth just since the early 90's I doubt it.
So potential is what you are selling. Gotcha.
No context which seems to escape you.
We are fine where we are now. Your undergrad degree does not carry any more weight than anyone else in the Belt.
Again if you have to look it up and or tell people how great you are ..... you are not. Emory grads do not have to provide links...
Glad you're ok. We aren't. We want to be better. Which is the basis of the article. Now is the time to get better, because we want to be in a better place.
Lol yes that is what I said. We are fine for the amount of time we have been a university I doubt many could match the same growth in all areas in that same time period
Your undergrad just got pulled in the gutter with absorbing perimeter. How about you get better and help the conference rep. You have been the problem not the conference.
Before you talk crap at least win the conference once and meet minimum attendance requirements. Also talking crap with a current losing conference record in your "best" sport.

Let's pull out the ruler and get to measuring...
Here's how Forbes ranks Georgia State and Georgia Southern:
GA State: #183 in Research Universities (Feel like this should be higher for the Harvard of the south?)
GA Southern: #219 in Research Universities (Feel like this should be lower for such a small, rural school?)
GA State: 960-1170 SAT Composite Range
GA Southern: 1030-1190 SAT Composite Range
GA State: 20-25 ACT Composite Range
GA Southern: 21-25 ACT Composite Range
GA State: 55% Admitted
GA Southern: 52% Admitted

Won the conference last year in 15, regular season in '14 & '15, and met attendance in football in 14.
You're telling me to shhh. Haha. How about you guys take a season series against us in something other than women's soccer?

Ben Moore writes for clicks. Somehow, the inciting event for his desire to move to CUSA is the jettison of two outlying football programs who won haven't made a bowl in a very long time?
He's also failing to mention in his article that Georgia State and it's President were two of the most staunch supporters for eliminating NMSU and Idaho to save travel. But hey, Idaho is R1 or something, so they are awesome!
On the bright side, if this whole Georgia State site doesn't work out, he'd always have a position available as a writer for Louisiana Tech.

Maybe Emory can learn a thing or two from them and all their research.
Side note, but years ago Central Arkansas used to like to claim itself as the Harvard of the South. They got made fun of a lot for it, and it was really funny.

I'm not following the logic of you and Ben Moore, here.
What do you expect to gain athletically from being in a conference with who you see as peer institutions? You think attendance will improve with hosting football and basketball games with those powerhouses FIU, Rice, UAB, and North Texas? You think that's going to speed up the flow of donations into the program?
Also, I'm trying to figure out how exchanging Idaho and NMSU for Coastal is somehow some middle finger to Georgia State and it's interests. How is that going to hurt State?

CUSA isn't good enough for State. Haven't you heard? Their peer institutions are Memphis and Cincinnati. It's just a shame that athletically speaking, they're more on par with Longwood or Coppin State.

Maybe the conference adding additional basketball and baseball programs that they will be ranked behind?

Not quite
You are right. They hand out hundreds of millions of dollars in research awards to these schools as a hand out.
Wait, this can't be right...

We always said home and homes with UAB would help.
As for the middle finger, you'd have to ask Ben. Basketball is off this year. Clickbait. Which worked. I have always had the mentality of dressing for the job you want, not the one you have. I think the AAC is the highest we can go. You can't do it unless you start preparing or it.
Now... don't confuse this thinking for we are ready for the AAC. We have a long way to go and build to prove that. If we build for the AAC, and as everyone here believes we have no chance of making to CUSA let alone the AAC, then we bring the profile of the Belt up. We won't have the worst baseball facilities in the league anymore. We(hopefully) will not be playing in our gym in basketball. We will be driving students and alumni support. We will be hosting P5 programs at Sun Belt facilities.
It is a win win. After all, like y'all said, we have no chance of moving on. We are lucky to be here.

Yes, 4 or 5 schools who have been in this conference for years, 4 or 5 schools with solid fan bases who actually care about the programs, 4 or 5 schools with recent success in athletics and bowl championships, 4 or 5 schools who are updating facilities.
His ONLY argument is that you are a highly regarded research school?????
He is right about one thing, you are not in a conference with your peers. Based on athletics, we are all above you.

By a lot of people's logic on here, CUSA is below the the Belt now. So we should drop down.

I understand the concept of peer institutions. AState regularly claims Memphis and Cincy as "Peer Institutions"
It's just that we happen to understand the chances of actually getting invited to another league are somewhere next to Mr Slim and Mr None, so we also counter that argument with how we should be able to grow to the level we want in the Sun Belt.
The funny part about this whole thing is that those 4 or 5 schools who want to leave the Sun Belt, didn't want Georgia State in the Sun Belt, and their admission was part of the reason some of those 4 or 5 schools decided they want out.
