Why the heck can't the FBI just give the friggin' phone to Apple and let Apple, in it's offices, download the data and then give that data to the FBI? That way the FBI doesn't have the "key" in unlock every iphone, etc??

Cause then Apple is no longer acting as a private company, but as an arm of the federal govt. VA... and that's one slope we Don't want to go down.

If true, I was definitely laughing at the one report said the FBI actually managed to _change_ the password (or whatever system it uses (i'm not an iPhone guy)), and then apparently forget or don't know what they changed it to.

Phone companies have forever done the exact same thing. Only difference here is it's digital.
