Bad news for Ted Cruz: his eligibility for president is going to court
The Circuit Court of Cook County in Chicago has agreed to hear a lawsuit on Sen. Ted Cruz's eligibility for president — virtually ensuring that the issue dominates the news in the runup to the South Carolina primary.

Cruz was born in Canada to a US citizen mother and a noncitizen father. The Constitution requires presidents be "natural-born citizens," but what exactly that requires hasn't been settled in court.

Now, perhaps, it will be. The lawsuit in Illinois aims to resolve the question by challenging Cruz's eligibility for the presidency. It was filed by Lawrence Joyce, an attorney who has told local media that he supports Dr. Ben Carson and has had no connection with the Trump campaign.

Thank God it wasn't Trump that did it.

It should be interesting to see how many strict constitutionalists convert on this one.

Again...this is settled law. Though, I blame Cruz for allowing this crap to go this far. He is a smart guy and had no response for this question. If Trump didn't bring it up, Hillary and Bernie definitely would and he should have been more prepared.

^^^^^This is GOOD NEWS for Cruz. Getting this behind him will allow him to spend more time on dirty tricks.

It speaks to his lack of judgement. He also recently had to fire an actress who was a porn star.

If you can't do the little things, why should we expect him to do the big things.

He's addressed it multiple times, including at the CNN town hall. Why should he continue to dwell on it, when he isn't going to change the mind of those who will believe what they want to believe?

This will be thrown out of court just like the multitude of Obama lawsuits were. Sorry Fit, you got suckered on this one.

Convert to what? I'm glad the court will hear this and *hopefully* finally give us an iron clad definition of what is and is not a "natural born citizen". That provision was added to be sure our leader was not a "citizen of the world" but men who would first and foremost look out for the United States.

For what it's worth my bigger concern over Obama's eligibility had more to do with the accusation that he at one point became an Indonesian Citizen while he and his mother lived there. But really once he took the oath of office any such fights were moot and terribly wasted energy.

Unless the actress put "porn star" on her resume I don't get why this is a judgement issue on Cruz. She was an actress hired to do a commercial.

Wow... After 7.5 years of hearing from the left that *nothing* which went wrong in the executive branch was Obama's fault this is the weak sauce you bring?

This is another reason why the GOP needs to control the Tea Party. Had they silenced them when this thing came up with Obama, Cruz wouldn't have to worry about this.

But once again, what is good for the goose....

I was actually okay with the softcore porn star. She was trying make a living and fit the casting call. If we are going to scrutinize everyone in a political commercial, we might just be going a bit too far.

This is what happens when you belong to a party that claims the moral high ground.

If Cruz is the prophet that will usher in the Apocalypse shouldn't he have sensed this sort of thing?

Not just the 2 to 3 minutes rehearsed statement...he should have also had a written document for the media that outlined, in legal terms, why this is a nonstarter. He should have already had lined up legal scholars to support his position. He should have been better prepared for what was an obvious attack. As soon as the question came up, he should have used a big stick and knocked it down. Instead, he did what he does sometimes and just talks down to people because he knows more than they do. I like Cruz, but sometimes dude has to come down a pinch.

I don't know what you are talking about, but as a Catholic, I believe in the Rite of Reconciliation and I'm sure many evangelicals believe in redemption. No one is perfect...that is why Jesus died for our sins. Maybe she has changed her life....if so, why hold what she did against her?
