Defying the odds...
My mother is 89 years young. She lives in Panama City, Florida and has been a Gulf Coast State College basketball Fan for twenty years and attends all of the men's and women's basketball games in PC, as well as many of their regular season road games. Roonie Scovel has coached the Gulf Coast women's basketball team for twenty years. Her record is impeccable. Scovel's career record with the Lady Commodores is now 500-70 (winning percentage of .877). Scovel's career highlights include:

Three NJCAA championships (2003, 2008, 2010)
Eight FCSAA State Championships (1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010)
13 Panhandle Conference Championships (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010)
17 NJCAA All-Americans.

This season, Scovel's team finished the regular season with a 24-1 record and is ranked #1 in NJCAA Division 1 Rankings in the nation.

I call my mom at least two or three times a week and this time of year she talks about Gulf Coast basketball and I talk about UAB basketball. We have a lot of fun keeping each other up to date on our favorite teams. I have become quite a Gulf Coast fan, myself, over the years. Mom has become quite a great fan of UAB basketball, over the years, too. She is really pulling for UAB this year and sees the potential for our favorite team to defy the odds and to be quite successful, this season.

Tell your mom to send us some of those great JC players for our Lady Blazers team.
