This might be the "smallest" school to win a cws title. Fresno state won it in 2008 but they play fbs football in the mwc and not the big south. A relatively better known school.
Good for coastal. I know the sbc will try to claim that title but they were a big south member while they won it.

Ironically, I think Coastal joins the Belt at midnight tonight.

Haven't Cal State Fullerton and/or Wichita State won the National championship in baseball in the past? Great accomplishment for Coastal.

ESPN said coastal is only the fourth instance of a non-P5 school winning the title in the last 25 years.

What time was the game played today? I tried to find it at 9 but it wasn't listed on any of the sports channels.

It was on the U at 1:00 today. It's a shame that CCU's moment wasn't during primetime.

RE: JMU Baseball
Awesome job by Coastal.....CONGRATS!!!!!

The 'best' team rarely wins the CWS......it is all about getting timely hitting, great pitching, and at least ONE dominant pitcher for a 3 week stretch. The CWS title is all about catching lightning in a bottle and CCU had all the necessary components.

A CWS title is not what I mean --- but I will reiterate, there is no reason that JMU baseball cannot consistently be at the level of UNCW/ECU/CCU and I think Coach Ike can get JMU to that level.

I'm pretty sure the best team does win the national title. Why? Because they won more games than all of their other opponents.
If that doesn't make you the best, then I don't know what to tell you.

I'd imagine he was just saying that the best team "on paper" doesn't always win. That said, you're right, when you win it all, you can proudly wear the title of being the best.

Congrats to CCU. Very impressive what a school of its size in Conway, SC has been able to accomplish.

Seriously dude you know damn well what I meant....you just get your rocks off being a douche.

I never said CCU did not deserve and earn their national title.
(just the fact that it was Arizona-CCU in the title game was crazy --- that would be like a 5 and 7 seed playing for the National Title in March Madness)

But you line then up in a best of 3 or best of 5 or best of 7 against Florida this year I will take Florida everytime. It is about matchups and just getting 'hot' at the right time. No way if hell UVA was the 'best' team overall last season either but they won the CWS. They had much better teams their 2 previous trips to Omaha.

It just like when JMU beat VT in football everything lined up on one given day. If we played VT 9 more times that year JMU gets beat 9 times and most of them badly.

Article just posted on the new baseball recruits. Eight players incoming, with three listed as pitchers (including one from my former high school, Stone Bridge in Ashburn)

^^^^^^to add to Assyrian ...coach Ike picked up some players from solid 757 programs. Greenbrier Christian, coached by major league all star pitcher Gary Lavelle, produces D1 talent every year and some mlb draftees. Likewise, western branch high has produced its share of the same. Good to see him getting these players, and I know he was pulling talent out of here when he was at VMI

That's an encouraging report. JMU's pitching has been so poor for so long it would be nice to think we have a capable staff on the horizon.

+1 --- So there will be a total of 15 fresh faces for the baseball team next season when combining Fall and Spring signees. Looks like a pretty impressive list of recruits and a lot of 'arms' which are desperately needed. From what I hear 'IKE' and his staff are constantly on the road recruiting ---- something that could not be said of previous staff the last 2/3 years.
