Awesome news. Recruiting off to a really good start this season. Hopefully we can pick up some highly ranked guys on the DL as well. I've read this is a very solid class for the Houston area.

One of the longest offer lists I've seen for a Rice commit. No SEC teams but every other conference seems to be covered.

Possibly. It shows an *increased* commitment to athletics by the University. It wouldn't surprise me if the recruiting pitch now incorporates the communication of further commitment by Rice (i.e., future IPF, South EndZone plans, more uniform combos, etc)

I don't think an IPF is on the immediate horizon. Where would it go, and secondly, is it really that necessary when the McNair Family lets us use the Texans facility whenever we want?

I would not get too excited. I think these kids mostly use Rice to obtain a schloraship from a higher ranked D1 program. We lost all our so called 3 star recruits last recruiting round. Time will tell.

honestly, how can it not have an impact? you go from decrepit showers, etc. to a facility that's actually shiny and has the modern S&C accouterments and is pleasant to be in?

Yeah, after getting so hyped up for Josh Hall last year (I know, different sport) I'm trying to tame excitement levels for recruits who haven't signed. A year is a long time to make decisions.

In the 2015 football recruiting class, Rice lost 3 good recruits in the ~3 months before signing day, an o-lineman that I believe ended up at TCU, a DT who wanted to go to Stanford and ended up elsewhere, and a TE. So yes, always best to temper expectations! A lot can happen (including Rice admissions) and they are just kids making my an important life decision.

The DT, Ross Donelly, ended up at Ole Miss. He redshirted this past year. Awolope (the OT) redshirted, as did Hunter Herndon the TE who went to SMU

Thanks, I was too lazy to look it up. Awolope's offer list reminded me of Howerton's. Lots of P5 offers.

Donnelly played in 7 games and had 6 tackles. I think one of their DTs either was injured or had off field issues.

Yeah, my bad. I checked last September but Ole Miss did have some legal trouble on the D-Line.

Question: I count five #HootNHollers. But I only see four recruits. Who is number 5?

There was a theory it was Chuck Pool's new grandson? Because there was a tweet that showed a picture of the baby with an offer letter.

I thought that was a joke but I haven't seen any announcement of a 5th commit.

My understanding is that you are correct. The 5th #hootnholler was for the newest Pool.
