Don't worry, we are going to find another athletic, low skill diamond in the rough with only mid-major offers but it's just because he's been underrecruited...he doesn't play for a name-brand AAU team, just got off the boat from Africa, or <insert any other old excuse we've used>. We should consider ourselves lucky that he committed to us before all of the other high-major offers started rolling in. /s

And don't worry about his shooting stats, the offense didn't get him many open looks in high school.

Or Mick and the staff got the guy they wanted... or this kid wanted to be here... or all the other big boys just started to take notice last minute but Mick beat them to the punch... and so on

Or even better, some scrub that will develop into a 1,000 point scorer and make it to the NBA. I mean, we've had 3 of them on our past two rosters. God forbid we recruit another.

All 3 of those guys were national top 100 recruits. We haven't landed a single Top 100 kid in the last three recruiting classes.

Pretty telling. Besides Cronin’s first 3-4 years, our recruiting has stayed about the exact same.

...and, based on this, Samari Curtis is just slightly worse than Quadri Moore. So there's that.

Yeah let’s try and compare by position.
Just below Keith Williams and Jacob Evans. Above Larry Davis, Kevin Johnson, JaQuon Parker, Troy Caupain, Dion Dixon, Trevor Moore, DEONTAY VAUGHN, and SEAN KILPATRICK.

Deonta was a 39/33 shooter who averaged 3 TOs a game in his sub-.500 career...can we stop acting like he was incredible. Dude was essentially GeLawn Guyn with a big role on a bad team.
Dion Dixon averaged 9.4 points on 38/29 shooting...so basically one of the single most inefficient players to put on the Red and Black in some time.
Jaquon was a phenomenal defender and underrated overall contributor
Larry Davis, Kevin Johnson, and Trevor Moore are probably guys you don't want to be comparing our BEST RECRUIT IN THE CLASS to.

IIRC Evans and Clark were borderline 100 kids by most sites. Caupain was lower than both of them, maybe cracking the top 150 on 247 but I can't remember and don't feel like looking it up.
Cumberland was actually our highest recruit since Lawrence. He was a pretty solid 50-100 guy by most measures.

Yep, Clark was 90th overall and a 4* and Evans was 130 overall and a 4* but did hold the 100 spot through most of the ranking season.
Cumberland was a borderline 5* at one point IIRC.

And that's why many of us are deeply concerned about recruiting. Cumberland has continued to grow and improve but he was a contributor the first day he stepped on the court @ Fifth Third.
Other guys develop too, but that doesn't suggest their ceilings will ever be anywhere near as high as Cumberland, Evans, or Clark. Imagine this team's scoring without Cumberland next year or the year after?
We know Hardaway will have scorers in Memphis. I'm betting Hurley recruits some guys who can really play at UCONN. And Houston loves to spend money so Kelvin will get some "A" players. It's not a given that UC can continue to dominate the AAC as it did last year.
I'd like to think this staff could pull a rabbit out of the magician's hat with a late signing or transfer. But I've seen no indication that is probable or even possible.

RE: BB Class of 2019
I'm really curious how Mick rates as an "efficient recruiting", that is, getting guys who live up to, or surpass their potential while limiting guys who flare out. If you're paying attention to the rankings, it's worth considering why the past few years we've been significantly better on the court than the recruiting rankings would suggest.

RE: BB Class of 2019
According to Twitter, we're one four teams - along with SDSU, Northwestern, Oregon - vying for Santa Clara point guard grad transfer KJ Feagin. Averaged 17.5 pts, 4.0 assists last year. In addition, roughly a 2:1 assist:TO ratio. Broke his thumb in one of their first games this year.
Presumably looking to replace JJ and Cane. Does Mick believe it'll take another year to completely hand the offense over to Johnson...

I'm not so sure. He had 2 future NBA players and Kyle Washington last year, and we saw how that went. IMO, his style of basketball sees a diminishing ROI with more talent... so while it would certainly help to have more 4 and 5 star players, it probably wouldn't help as much as we would like.
