I havent gotten that far yet either, but after this performance with Theon and his fathers reaction to it I tend to agree.

TV SPOILER ALERT.....

My wife was VERY happy last night that Joffrey finally got his. But who do we love to hate now?

The Walkers are just as much of a mystery in the books as they are in the show. They're there, they're coming, and in the books it seems as though they are a very slow-moving storm that's coming to **** everyone up; they're really a personification of what winter is in the ASOIAF universe.

Winter's actually just as mysterious as the Walkers.

Winter's coming! LOL

But yeah, Winter seems to be a slow churn. We see very winter-like things happening though. Wildlings coming together, the red god is no longer just a bunch of parlor tricks, wargs are discovering their powers, etc.

Winter just gets there by end of book #5. Last night's white walker thing was not in any of the books. I'm just hoping they got it from GRRM. It does answer some big questions about them, and it also shows the WW as intelligent, not just some undead army. I cannot wait for book #6, The Winds of Winter. It can't come soon enough.

I've always thought that the WWs were intelligent. The wights however...

Curious, is Benjen Stark (Ed's brother) a white walker? If so then I bet the white walkers will side with the Starks.

I expect to see the show continue to diverge from the books. GRRM supposedly told HBO where the story was going and I don't think they are willing to wait until his heirs finish the books in 2030.

Well in a world where Summer can last for years and Winter can last for decades, seems like everyone would enjoy a nice, long, multi-year Autumn or Spring.

I don't think they're really trying to diverge. GRRM probably knows that this is probably the time to throw this imagery in there that wouldn't make sense unless he made a POV role for an Other. The show's an interesting way to clear up some of these mysteries that he's put out there.

The divergence goes well beyond the Night's King thing. In the books Bran doesn't go to Crastor's Keep. Jon doesn't go out to bring back the deserters. I don't know where they're going with this. Will Jon run into Bran? Will someone else save him? At least it makes it interesting for those that have kept up with the books.

They're just trying to give Bran and Jon something to do since they probably want to move The Battle of the Wall till the end of this season. Otherwise both characters have some dry stuff between now and the battle. Expect Dany's stuff to get compressed or changed some too. Otherwise this season is all Tyrion all the time, if they followed the books.
