No surprise at all. Both kids had 1 and 3 offers respectively. This is 1 reason that early offers can be beneficial. Marcus Haynes had NIU listed as an interest, but the feeling may not have been mutual this early. There may be questions about PJ's coaching, but he is one of the top recruiters in the country.
According to the recruiting services, which haven't rated NIU in the top half of the MAC (OK a few 6 ranks) in 10 years until 2015's 4th. I think we can question their accuracy at the MAC level.

247Sports(NIU Signing Class MAC Rank):

'08-12
'09-9
'10-8
'11-6
'12-9
'13-4
'14-4
'15-3

Yet another PJ thread 03-confused

Not at all. Its a concern that many other schools in our own conference (WMU, CMU, Toledo, Miami, etc) have been coming to Illinois and grabbing many recruits that NIU doesn't even really put much effort into.

It looks like we have jump started the offers this year with guys in Florida but the coaching staff needs to be looking at players in our home region as well.
Maybe our coaches should get creative and put some effort into going after the local players...

Rivals has us @ #5 for 2016, while 247 has us at #10! Part of the reason for 247 lower ratings/ranking is that we do not split our scholarship players from our preferred walk- ons. They are considered all in the same class. Therefore some rank our walk -ons at a minimum ranking, while others may leave them unranked entirely! We have done this as long as I can remember. Just FYI.

My point is that a lot of us who have been around awhile don't pay much attention to rankings at the MAC level. There is not much effort going into player evaluations. NIU has won a lot of titles with low rated classes.

I always thought that if you can get at least 8 or 9 good players that fit your Offensive and Defensive schemes every Signing Class you're ok.
I think NIU has also done a nice job developing their players.

Make that 5 commits from Illinois, including Prince Walker a guy we offered. WMU now has a total of 6 commits, 5 from Illinois.

This is a good place of recruiting news about Illinois HS recruits. I still wonder what affect waiting to offer some potential Huskies does for our chances of landing them later. WMU, Toledo, BG, Miami etc. seem to have offered many kids from Illinois. when you click on the player, most have not been offered by NIU. Seems like you would like to get your name in the hat so that if the kid commits early, you have a chance.

I think you have to remember, the only accurate list of offers is in the Head Coaches office. Edgy has only what some players tell him. I think our staff knows what thsy are doing and they have all the information at their disposal.

I know they get the info from the player but why would he not include NIU if he had an offer from us? I am not saying give out 500 offer like some programs but any football player in Illinois that is a quality player and quality student should be offered. Got to get your name in early. PJ has done that and has 5 commits from Illinois. We have none.

I think what GCD is saying is that we should trust that the coaches know who is a "quality player" and who we need to spend our time and effort on. I am not really worried that PJ might win another "recruiting championship." I put my trust in steady and consistent over flashy any time.

Something also to keep in mind is that NIU typically gives offers to players who camp with them in DeKalb during the summer. This gives the staff an opportunity to evaluate the players in their system and see who fits best.

Yeah but think of all the potential recruits that fit the NIU system best that the coaches could be missing out on locally and even nationally who do not initially camp in the summer...

Obviously you want the kids who want to be here but sometimes the coaches have to be out there reaching these kids to get them to want to be at NIU. Other MAC schools are coming in knowing that NIU does not recruit heavily and they are able to snag a lot of good prospects who have no interest in NIU because NIU has little to no interest in them.
