Losing Nixon forced a scramble at a thin position.

Good thing with the JUCOs we have a great chance of them just playing from day one. Especially at prolly the weakest part of our defense. Did Nixon say that he decommitted or just assumed after he got the Iowa offer?

He decommitted.

Hope the staff wasn't caught off guard by this. Seems like lots of scrambling going on to keep this class together.

RE: 2017 Official Recruiting Thread
As scout continues their updating, they now list Nixon at 6'5" and 290 lbs. The combination of fast riser and increased weight was too tempting to the power 5's to pass up. I do think we should all move on from Nixon who is quite raw and did not want to remain a huskie. On another scout update they have moved 3 star Nate Weiland up to our number 5 rated position ahead of Issac Hawn. They also now have him listed at linebacker.

Where is there evidence of a lot of scrambling? I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. A guy decommitted because he's picking up P5 interest which happens every year. They immediately offered a JUCO replacement. Everything else seems relatively stable as far as I can tell.

There's going to be movement and changes at most schools. Nothing out the ordinary for this time of year. I wouldn't call it scrambling. By offering the juco's it looks like they had a backup plan in place.

Horrible news on Wieland and Nixon. We better go get at least one of the WMU 3* recruits to make up for this loss. Rodney Hall your table is set.

This is why I think the early signing period would help smaller schools like NIU IMO.

Can someone list out the number of times we have been left at the alter by QB verbals in the last 10 years?

And exactly the reason it got shot down

RE: 2017 Official Recruiting Thread
Just to clarify, a December early signing period is expected to be approved by the NCAA later this spring. The idea of an even earlier signing period in June is what was shot down.

I don't even want to know. I think most of them haven't panned out elsewhere either though. Not at QB anyway.

Good point. None of the recruits that have snubbed us at the last second have shown to be great anywhere else......

How would an early signing period change anything? It still would be treated as a "deadline".

Not QBs, but the Ben Niemann has looked great at Iowa. Ingold was playing at Wisconsin as a true freshman. Jon Asamoah had a great career at Illinois and in the NFL. Cortez Lewis has had a great career at Wake Forest.

We had a thread about this too last year if anyone is interested. http://csnbbs.com/thread-767167.html

Wasn't Jazz Peavey, who is a starter at Wisconsin, a verbal?
