Lack of FBS transfers
Sly you may know the answer to this question, but please feel free for anyone to chime in. What's Gill's thoughts on taking FBS transfers? As far as I can tell he's only taken a couple. The te from WV comes to mind and I know there's been a couple others. Some FCS teams make it a point to try and land some of the FBS transfers. It seems about half of Jacksonville States roster is made up of transfers from FBS schools. I think Auburn, Georgia and Alabama are all represented. I was hoping we could have picked up a 5th year qb that could have possibly bridged the gap until Buckshot or the other fr. is ready to go. Does Gill just not see the value in that or is it hard to lure transfers to Liberty?

RE: Lack of FBS transfers
First off, you have to have kids ready to accept the Liberty Way to come into your program. We are not a great landing spot for many of the kids who have been transferring. Jax State is a state school sitting in a great place to get spillover from SEC kids who need playing time.

Second, the culture of kids transferring from FBS to FCS so that they can play right away is changing. More and more the FBS kids are choosing to sit out a season to stay at the FBS level. This has been noted across the board but most all schools at FCS level.

And finally, Coach Gill appears to be philosophically inclined to use his limited scholarships on kids who will stick around for four years as opposed to the quick 1-2 year fixes that we enjoyed under Coach Rocco. Not saying either philosophy is better just that they are different.

Now I would not be at all surprised to see a couple of FBS transfers arrive later this spring or summer in time to help this fall. But we are not counting on that to occur at this point. If an FBS kid is capable of improving our team, I am confident that Coach Gill will give them his full consideration.
