RE: Athlon: 2016 Starting QB Rankings (Mullens & Stockstill in top 25)
So are you willing to be open to admitting that you just grabbed a verse without understanding the context? In order to have a valid conversation both sides have to be able to admit they have room to grow their understanding of the opposing view. Throwing a single verse out with the sole intent of offering it as an example of God being a proponent of slavery is nothing but inflammatory and very misleading.

I'd take a lot of the more immflamatory bible verses in a different direction and say they more speak to the perversions of the bible by the countless hands of men who have influenced the book through writing, editing, translating etc.

I'm not saying there is a God, I'm not saying there is not a God, but I am saying that believing that through all the thousands of years and countless men who helped shape the bible in one way or another, believing that it is the 100% infalible word of God, that no author, that no translator, that no king in his edits, none of them added or subtracted things through their own personal motivations...believing that, takes as much, if not more, faith as believing in God in the first place.

So you place limitations on the power of God and his ability to make sure his true message survives translation?

That isn't exactly how I'd phrase it, but I could see why you would. I might say that it's one of the more convenient central tenets of Christianity.

Are you suggesting that the books of the bible that are no longer recognized were removed by divine intervention? If God is going to micromanage to the point that he's going to divinely inspire kings to remove books from the bible, why didn't he prevent them from getting in there in the first place? Why would God allow false prophets, or other religions at all? To test our faith right? But this one book(that not even all denominations of Christianity interpret the same) God wouldn't ever allow a single passage that wasn't his actual word? God would test you in every sense, even allowing pastors to be rocked by scandal, for institutional pedophilia to take hold of the Catholic church, for millions of lives to be lost fighting in his name...but this one magic book, written thousands of years ago, translated, retranslated, edited, re-edited, translated again, written into different versions. None of the false prophets, none of the men who killed in his name, no crooked pastors, none of them ever got their hands on the bible?

The problem is, when you actually step back and look at it, it's pretty plain to see that men who were not true Christians have infiltrated literally every single aspect of the institution of Christianity and it is simply illogical to suggest that the bible wasn't also compromised, but when you admit that, it causes cracks in the one foundation believers can always come back to.

But faith isn't logical you'll tell me and that much you and I can agree on, but from my view it sure is convenient as well.

Like he said, you doubt the power of God, the Creator. Tell me, when you pass on and meet him face to face, what will you tell him that will let you into Heaven?

In other news, one of the "_"'s just officially hit my sports radar for the first time ever! Congrats to FAU for beating Mississippi State University on opening day in MSU's own tournament. Way to help the RPI!

Now, if we can get FIU to do the same at Old Piss!

The Florida guys on this thread may not think much of Mississippi, but they sure don't mind traveling here for baseball. Let's hope for some more wins over the Mutts and the Bears!

I'm just hoping I don't die too soon. I've got a lot of bible-reading and mission trips to do if I want to get in. I guess you're probably OK, unless you've been taking kickbacks on all those big tractors and combine harvesters you sell.

Believing in God simply out of fear of not getting into heaven is not believing in God.

I don't believe God doesn't exist I don't believe God does exist, if it were as simple as flipping a switch, I would, but it's not.

Further, I'm still not sure you really understand what I'm saying, IF there is a God, no, I'm not "doubting his power", I'm simply pointing out that it just seems odd that if God were going to micromanage to that point, why were there ever more books in the first place? Why have kings edit the bible well after it was originally written? It's not doubting the ability, it just doesn't make sense. God doesn't prevent evil men from becoming pastors, priests, ministers etc. God doesn't prevent holy wars, God doesn't prevent false prophets, but he did make sure every word of the bible is untarnished by those types of men? Today women are just as involved in Christian leadership as men, but he didn't prevent them being kept out of those roles for thousands of years? Why? Explain the inconsistencies. "God works in mysterious ways." right? That's not an answer, it's just more convenience.

Again, if that's good enough for you, if you aren't bothered by the illogical nature of that belief system, I'm not telling you that you're wrong, but I appreciate your condescension of you telling me I am, but I understand how important it is to take that stance when it comes to your faith. And again, your religious beliefs have no place in our common law.

Of course it does, the Creator does not exclude himself from anything....lol. Pick up a Bible somewhere and read Luke 16: 19-31. It will tell you what those that don't believe are in store for after death. You are right about one thing, you can't be scared into Heaven, you must accept Christ for who he is...

You are an exceptional critical listener. I was raised in the church, I'm familiar with the passage you're referring to. It does nothing to prove your point friend.

Again, I do not believe the bible is the infallibile word of God, nor is it provable, but you will continue to present your beliefs as facts. It's a pointless excercise on your behalf I can assure you.

Keep your religion out of our laws and we don't have a problem, this is a land of religious freedom, which means your bible has nothing to do with my rights friend, not a damn thing.
