NCAA Tournament
As we are approaching the NCAA tournament thought I'd throw out a few discussion points.

1. Are you in favor of expanding the tournament field? I would like to see 96 teams get in. I'd like the top 32 teams to receive byes and those last 32 teams play on the first days.
Have conference championships complete on Saturday and the NCAA Selection on Saturday night. Start with 96 teams..... Tue: 16 games (teams seeded 33-96). Wed: 16 games (teams seeded 33-96). Thu: 16 games (1-32 seed plays Tue. winner). Fri: 16 games (1-32 seed plays Wed. winner). Then we are back on regular tournament schedule. The first tourney games are played on Tuesday now anyway, so not much would change.

2. I'd like to see the regular season conference champ as well as the conference tournament champ receive automatic bids to the NCAA tourney. It would make the regular season a little more valuable and reward the team that has been the most consistent throughout the season.

RE: NCAA Tournament
The tourney can only get so big before people start getting upset. It will be like the bowl system. The bowl system is so watered down there are bowls happening I have never heard of and teams with losing records even went bowling this past season. So expanding just to expand is a bad idea in my opinion.

I wish they would just stick to 64. The first round in Dayton is not great in my opinion. The only good thing is I can go to those games. I live in Cinci so Dayton is only about an hour away.

RE: NCAA Tournament
I would like to see the NCAA tournament be 64 teams. I hate the "first round" games, especially when they include teams that earned their way into the tournament instead of at-large bids.

I would like to see this implemented but I understand it would be terribly difficult: The highest seeded schools advancing get to pick their next opponents. I don't think it is that fair that a 1-seed could be playing an 8-seed after their first game but a 6-seed could be playing a 14-seed if the 3-seed is upset. Or what if a 5-seed lost their star player or something which would make them easier, or a higher seed matched up better against a team different than the team they are scheduled to play against. I know this would be difficult to implement due to games every other day that could be all across a region so I'm not expecting this to ever happen but I'd like it to.

I do like the suggestion by army56mike about regular season and conference tournament champs getting into the field but that will never pass. I'd prefer for a conference to get to send one automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and the other champ (regular season or tournament) gets an auto-bid to the NIT.

RE: NCAA Tournament
I think the play in games should be eliminated at the expense of the P-5 schools. Smaller conference champions shouldn't be punished to play an extra game that nobody cares about so that some ACC or SEC that barely has a winning record can be in the playoffs.

One of the many reasons that I feel the NCAA is at worst corrupt and at best hypocritical. Everything is geared towards the bigger and richer schools as opposed to the supposed fairness and equal playing field that most of their liberal academic institutions preach and espouse.

I'm sorry, but the mid and low major conference champs have earned their rights to their 15 minutes of fame and the right to share the stage with and to be pounded by their P-5 brethren.

Besides, America loves to root for the underdog and every March we look forward to the next underdog-Cinderella story. After cheering for your schools, nothing is better than rooting for the next VCU, Valpo, Butler, and Gonzaga. But that's just my opinion.

That's one of the reasons I'd like to see the tourny expanded. It was Liberty a couple years ago that won the BSC tourny and made the NCAA tourny with a losing record. They probably took the spot of a more deserving regular season champ. That happens on a regular basis. A good regular season champ gets left behind because of a fluke loss. I like seeing the mid majors have their chance to shine... and often they do. You can't have too much NCAA tourny. It's awesome!

RE: NCAA Tournament
So, if we finished the season up with a record of 19-15, winning the BSC tourney, would we play on Tuesday?

You could almost bank on it.

RE: NCAA Tournament
I don't think we'd play in the 1st round if we won out and got the autobid. Our current RPI and BPI according to ESPN isn't that bad. Frankly, I thought it would have been worse.

RE: NCAA Tournament
I can't believe tomorrow is selection Sunday. Usually I am much more excited. But I don't really have a dog in the fight this year. I still think the tourney should expand to 96 teams. It gives the fan more to watch and there are enough competitive teams out there to fill those limited spots. I could name the needed field of 28 teams now to bring the number up to 96 and still have plenty left over for the NIT and other post season tourneys.

*North Florida (22-11) Regular Season Champs
*Winthrop (23-9) Co Regular Season Champs
*High Point (21-10) Co Regular Season Champs
*UC Irvine (23-9) Co Regular Season Champs
*Hofstra (24-9) Co Regular Season Champs
*UAB (26-6) Regular Season Champs
*Valpo (26-6) Regular Season Champs
*Wagner (22-10) Regular Season Champs

RE: NCAA Tournament
96 teams would water it down so much. How many get left out that truly deserve to be in each year? Maybe four or five at most. But those teams that barely get left out never have a shot at winning the tournament anyway. Winning the tournament is exactly why they should be invited in the first place, right? Adding 32 schools with no shot to win would lose the tournament money, not make it in my opinion. Nobody attends the lower tier bowls and that has way more recognizable schools than Wagner, Grand Canyon, Evansville, etc. Nobody would attend those games and nobody would watch them either.

RE: NCAA Tournament
I respectfully disagree. Fans love the Cinderella and watch to see upsets. People love March Madness. Some of those teams we wonder whether they deserve a spot in the tournament have really made some noise. Remember when the tournament was much smaller than 64 teams. People use to say adding more then would water it down. But if we had listened to them we'd never have seen... Penn (1979), Cleveland St. (1986), Richmond (1988), Loyola Marymount (1990), Chattanooga (1997), Valpo (1998), Gonzaga (1999), Kent St. (2002), George Mason (2006), Bradley (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), Butler (2011), Florida Gulf Coast (2013), Wichita St. (2013), Dayton (2014). And that's just to name a few. They may not have gone on to win the whole thing, but they made the tournament fun, showed they could play, and even made a few Final Fours. I'd say that adds value. But hey, I dig your opinion. Everyone has one and that doesn't make them right or wrong re: the tourney. I am also for an expanded college football playoff. I think the more the merrier for the most part.

RE: NCAA Tournament
In today's college basketball world and especially this year almost anyone could win any game. That's one thing that makes March Madness so great. The majority of the country is cheering for the little teams and the upsets.
