You guys tried hard so we'll still give it to you.
6,000/19000+ = ~30% of the student body
People need to realize that some things need to be earned.
It's not about a participation trophy.....athletics could have and should have done a better job of spelling out the rules. At the very least, don't be disingenuous about it after the fact and put it in terms that the students failed. It was not necessary to wait until after the season was over to announce the terms weren't met, they could have been smart enough to have something, anything in the way of a reward for the top individual or top three, to perhaps encourage students to take part in future promotions.
Since you've apparently not kept up with the latest, NIU's enrollment is at a 34-year low of 18,519, but yes 6,000/18,519 is slightly less than 30% of the student body; so what? If anything that make Morris White and Huskie marketing look bad for conducting an unrealistic promotion.
Find me any P5 or GO5 program where they expect 30% of their student body to show up for every home game. We all want NIU athletics to succeed, but that doesn't mean blindly defending everything that happens. It's like football, either execute better or try something different. Next time, instead of losing a yard, gain seven; instead of hanging on for a win, blow the opponent out.
People need to realize promotions should be about gaining, increasing support, not something that looks like a sleight of hand trick.
