RE: Jeff Goodman: "Bruce Pearl would be in play"
I can make a heckuva argument as to why he WOULD leave Auburn and why he WOULDN'T ... plenty of truth to both sides.

At the end of the day, I just don't see it happening...though he'd be THE man I'd want for the job!

But, how will he look with Tiger blue body paint?
Orange was the perfect color for him.

Except his buyout is $5MM as opposed to pastner's $200k.

I want to know what our boosters were smoking.

In hindsight, that's the only good clause in Pastner's contract. Hell, I'd advocate paying another school $200K to offer him a job right now.

LOL. The boosters should scrap together some money to hire a head hunter to promote the heck out of Pastner to other schools looking for a coach. There has to be a school out there somewhere willing to offer him a good enough deal so that he'd leave Memphis on his own.

RE: Jeff Goodman: "Bruce Pearl would be in play"
Pearl wants a place where he is revered. He's got an ego, arguably larger or smaller than any other high level successful coach. He also wants a place to recruit, with a story. He does want to be at a basketball driven school, IMO.
He knows he can get that here. I've always said, like many others here, that he's be a primary target, if possible, and he'd just kill it here.
He's got a lot of friends here.
We shall see.

If Goodman said Pearl would be genuinely interested in the job, then he clearly hasn't spoken to Pearl about the Memphis job in more than 12 months.
LOL. So funny, but not accurate. Not close.

Oh...okay

I agree....enough time has passed.

That said, I don't really know that A - he would come here now, or B - the boosters are willing to pay him what he would want to come here AND foot the bill for JP's buyout at the same time.

If he does come, I'm still not taking these back.

Yeah, in the world of false flags, stealth ops, astroturf groups, and so on, why not?

And there's one poster who has pominently proclaimed that everyone in basketball world outside of Memphis thinks Pastner is a great coach and has done a terrific job here. So, the offers should come flooding in.

I've always thought that framing up Josh in a call girl setup with pics could solve all our problems. It's Memphis, Jake.

But what do I know?

MEMPHIS still is, it's just that basketball has flipped importance levels with football.

Basketball is # 2 and football has ascended to # 1.

Pastner will be gone by APril 1 and a new head coach will be hired. The new HC will not be Pearl.
