Statistics overwhelmingly state that parental oversight helps tremendously though, especially when the original parents are married throughout the kid's life.

Teacher was wise to show restraint, not just from a "legal" standpoint. Cigar Kid probably had buddies in that class, so if the teacher even laid a hand on him, it becomes a 5 on 1 gang-like beatdown in a matter of seconds.

If I tried to "get involved" by approaching this kid and teach him right from wrong, I don't think it would end well for me.

Here's where social workers and counselors come in, paid pros who have the background in this sort of stuff.

His classmates were cheering him on, so forget his peers in school. They apparently love his entertainment.

I am curious as to what the judge will sentence this punk to if found guilty on the misdemeanor harassment charge. He is 18, so he can be dealt with as an adult. This
smoke blower had already been removed from the class several times before. Seems to me he has forfeited his right to attend that school as a regular student. We shall see what the judge says.

Every one that I possibly have time for. It's not easy but if you have the time, get involved. Read, be a role model, show a kid a different way. Every little bit helps and we'll all be better off 20 years from now. These kids are starving for leadership.
