UT-C at #52 or MT #53, VU - #62, UT - #85, Belmont - #95, Memphis - #125

We're #2 in the state according to KenPom. If that makes you feel any better. Or worse, your choice.

My choice is to have a team at least good enough to get to the second weekend of the tournament. Right now we won't get an at large bid and if we do get it at all it will be a double digit seed in what may be the weakest field in NCAA history.

Progress in year 7? What's year 8 looking like ? I'll give you the answer to that. Our two signees consist of a 5-9 shooting guard a 6-7 180 lb JC 4 man. Shaq, Burrell and Tarrant are all gone and Dedric may be NBA bound.

You happy doe right ?

It is easier to get to the second weekend as a 11,12,13 than it is as an 8 or 9 or 10.

I saw somewhere where we got the projected auto bid and are a 14 seed.

Progress?

Ouch.

For the positive Paul's we are a whopping 73in the Kenpom, which puts us right ahead of UT at 76 which has a roster full of castoffs. This team plays HOD doe and that's all that matters I guess.

I wish we were better and find the numbers / results disappointing...

... but don't discount playing hard. It's literally the thing the kids themselves can control the most.

They can't shoot, and still have some rebounding issues, but I don't doubt their effort and heart. I can 100% get behind this team and think the world of the kids we have.

Still, it would be preferable to have a RPI close to the 30s than the 70s. I don't put that on the kid's effort however.

One of my favorite teams of all time was that team in the early 90s that was the frosh year of Garner, Mingo, etc. 13-16 or so and didn't even sniff the postseason, but by the end they were hell on wheels and could have beaten anyone.

Effort is a big part of why I watch college sports. Winning is the big deal, but effort and guts are enough to buy my affection...

(not kicking you Bluto, just emphasizing the point, I'm actually pretty sure you share my love of effort / guts 03-wink )

The playing hard thing makes it look like that they haven't the last 6 years. And whose fault would that be? Joe Jackson, Austin Nichols? Or are we still blaming Witherspoon and Sallie?

I think it's a 2 bid league. MAYBE 3 if an unforeseen team wins the tourney.

As of today i think UCONN & Cincy get in. Cincy is trending down though...I could see it being a 1 bid if they don't correct something

Well that is a horse of a different color I'd say.

I don't blame JJ, Spoon, or Sallie for anything and AN for very little.
The kids who play for classes and room/board aren't the Jedi we seek.

That's the same thing I've heard Josh saying lately -- "Forget all that other stuff, just look at this team."

That's like a compulsive gambler saying, "Forget all the money I borrowed from you in the past, this one's a sure thing."

While we're on this trip down memory lane, I'll also throw out that our best defensive teams have all been with Damon on the bench. Coincidence? Maybe........ but I know effort and defense go hand in hand.

It's going to be tough when selection time comes around and the conference's best win is against Texas. Am I missing any big wins?

The league is really weak and SMU of course is the top team and if they were in the B12 they probably wouldn't be in the top 4..

Our huge win vs the Buckeyes and our moral victory vs OU

Someone(s) in the conference will get a top 10 win against SMU. Hope it's us.

I think the playing hard thing is more a nod to the fact that we have gotten blown out in the past when we were over-matched. This year, not so much. You can make fun of moral victories all you want. But if you want context, compare it to the blowouts that we've mocked ourselves over.

Not really a Positive Paul, or a Sunshine Pumper, or even "sick" as one of our local media posters referred to "that" group of fans. I just like perspective and no-agendas. Don't like how some on here just want to mock

76 is not an acceptable KenPom, just as triple-digits is not acceptable for an RPI. I just don't see the value in putting the most negative spin on something that is possible to come up with.

More accurately described as "mindful" losses.

I have been lobbying the NCAA and ESPN for years to add "moral victories" next to the Win/Loss columns. I'll keep reaching for that rainbow.
