RE: NationStates Game Thread; Spin Room Edition
The Federal Republic of Blunderolia is a tiny, orderly nation, notable for its public floggings and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 9 million Blunderolians are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

RE: NationStates Game Thread; Spin Room Edition
From the original nation of mine.
The Issue
More and more, citizens are drinking before getting behind the wheel. A group of concerned citizens wants something done.
The Debate
Konrad Fellow, head of Unadilla States's chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous, says that drunk drivers need help. "Alcoholism is a nasty thing, a disease. The government has to help these poor souls to avoid the temptations of liquor, and wine, and beer, and hard cider, and brandy, and?" His eyes get a glazed far off look, "Where was I? Oh right, we have to help these people, not imprison them."
Accept
"That's lovely," says Max Jones, a noted anti-alcohol advocate, "In a perfect world where rehab fixes everything. But this is the real world, and it doesn't bring back the victims. Drunk drivers kill people every day. If they take others' lives, the government must take theirs!"
Accept
"All of those plans attack the symptoms, not the disease," says Minister of Transportation Kathleen Levy, "Alcohol is a curse, a poison sent by the Devil to tempt mankind. We cannot trust people to make decisions for themselves. The only answer is prohibition. Ban alcohol completely."
Accept

I'd dismiss that one. No good solution.

RE: NationStates Game Thread; Spin Room Edition
Ha ha... My nation is shaping up to be a dictatorship.
Quote:The Federal Republic of Blunderolia is a tiny, orderly nation, remarkable for its public floggings and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 12 million Blunderolians are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
The tiny, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Spirituality. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 7.6%.
The Blunderolian economy, worth 569 billion Pieces of 8 a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Gambling industry, with major contributions from Book Publishing, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Retail. Average income is 47,462 Pieces of 8, with the richest citizens earning 9.1 times as much as the poorest.
Organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region, bicyclists are banned from major roads, Animal Liberationists are regularly jailed, and political parties are banned from advertising and receiving private donations. Crime is a problem. Blunderolia's national animal is the Parrot.
Blunderolia is ranked 20th in CSNbbs and 103,981st in the world for Smartest Citizens, scoring 22 on the Average Edu-tellignce Test Score.

Hell, mine is one of the lower rates out there. Somebody has a tax rate ~70%. Their economy has imploded.

It's interesting that the successful economies are roughly inversely proportional to their tax rates.

It seems that a single decision can make a huge difference since we are all so early in our nations developments. I'm at 8.9% tax rate and despite the fact that worth of my economy is steadily increasing, my economic trend line is flat.

Mine's bounced anywhere from the current 6.2% to 8.1%.
Ironically my economy took it's first dip 80/100 to 77/100 when I allowed minimal uranium mining in a rainforest/

There's only one person from here who still semi-actively plays, not sure who it is though.

At one point we played Cyber Nations. Had a giant meta game outside of the clicky boxes. I liked it.

The NCAAbbs alliance was created by members of the NCAAbbs Network, a community-oriented network of sites centered around NCAA Athletics.[1] The Alliance was created on January 22, 2007 and membership numbered 73 as of April 26, 2007.

Sounds pretty cool, I'll have to look into it tomorrow.
