RE: OT: David (BOWIE)/ Glen Frey (Eagles)/ PRINCE and others dead
Unpacking a couple of other performances for Prince.

Like the live (first) performance of Purple Rain that was mostly the finished song. This transfer sounds like it hasn't aged well, but still amazing to consider. (Sorry for the Facebook link, but the only one I have right now.)

https://www.facebook.com/FarrelltronGrap...926388042/

And the live at Webster Hall acoustic set shows him solo and more intimately as a showman.

Prince had painkiller Percocet in his system : reports
Reuters May 5, 2016

(Reuters) - Music superstar Prince's autopsy found the painkiller Percocet in his system, the Minneapolis Star Tribune and KSTP-TV reported on Thursday, citing sources close to the investigation.

Prince also had a dangerously low red blood cell count, indicating he had been ill, Minneapolis ABC affiliate KSTP-TV said, citing two unnamed law enforcement officials.

A spokeswoman for the local medical examiner's office that conducted a post-mortem examination of Prince declined to confirm the reports.

The cause of Prince's death remained undetermined. The medical examiner's office said in late April the autopsy and toxicology results could take weeks.

The news reports came after federal authorities said on Wednesday they were joining the investigation into Prince's death.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Attorney's office in Minnesota will bring federal resources to the local investigation and expertise on the illegal use and trafficking of prescription drugs, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

Also on Wednesday, a lawyer for a California addiction doctor said Prince's representatives had contacted the doctor the evening before his death, adding that the doctor had planned to visit Prince for a "life-saving mission."

The 57-year-old Prince was found dead on April 21 at his Paisley Park home-studio complex in a Minneapolis suburb. Prescription opioid medication was found at the scene, a law enforcement source told Reuters.

Dr. Howard Kornfeld, who runs Recovery Without Walls, a clinic in Mill Valley, California, planned to fly to Minnesota on April 22, his lawyer William Mauzy said. In the meantime, his son, Andrew Kornfeld, a clinic staff member, traveled to Minnesota on April 21 for an initial discussion.

When Andrew Kornfeld arrived at Paisley Park, Prince was not available, Mauzy said. A staff member found the artist unconscious in an elevator, and Kornfeld called 911.

Tomita has passed. I remember discovering his "Snowflakes Are Dancing" LP. It was quite the departure for a guy reared on rock & roll.

It's been a pretty rough year on this topic. Here's a good list:

RE: OT: David (BOWIE)/ Glen Frey (Eagles)/ PRINCE and others dead
Didn't remember hearing this one. Used to love watching his old show every week when it was on PBS. Quite a crew he had there. Also enjoyed the SNL version:

John McLaughlin, political commentator and host of "The McLaughlin Group," died Aug. 16 at 89.

Quote:The show's format was hugely successful. As McLaughlin himself might have said, on a probability scale from zero to 10 -- zero meaning zero probability, 10 meaning metaphysical certitude -- in the show's heyday, the chances that the Washington establishment were faithfully tuning in each week was definitely a 10.

The show began with McLaughlin declaring, "Issue One!" and often featured the journalists pontificating on four or five issues of the day. It would end with the journalists predicting the future -- usually with a high degree of certainty, if not accuracy -- and McLaughlin declaring, "Buh-Bye!"

The show made stars of its panelists, who could go on to command high-priced speaking engagements and even played themselves in movies such as "Independence Day," ''Mission: Impossible" and "Watchmen." McLaughlin also played himself on episodes of "ALF" and "Murphy Brown" and was ridiculed as a speed-talking egomaniac by Dana Carvey on "Saturday Night Live."

The current group of panelists included Pat Buchanan, Eleanor Clift, Clarence Page and Tom Rogan.

"My theory is people say under pressure for the most part what they really mean," McLaughlin said. "In a confrontational situation, you'll get their gut. And I want their gut! And that's why people watch this show!"

The 1982 pilot featured syndicated columnists Jack Germond and Robert Novak as well as Chuck Stone of the Philadelphia Daily News and Judith Miller of The New York Times. Stone and Miller were quickly replaced by Pat Buchanan and Morton Kondracke.

Fred Barnes and Eleanor Clift were added in 1985, after Buchanan left to become Reagan's communications director, giving the show its first woman.

Born March 29, 1927, McLaughlin grew up in a middle class neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island, where his father was a furniture salesman. He trained for the priesthood at Shadowbrook, a small Jesuit seminary in western Massachusetts, and earned master's degrees in philosophy and English at Boston College and a doctorate in communications at Columbia University.

He worked as an editor at a Jesuit weekly and gave lectures on sex before shocking his friends in 1970 by switching parties to run unsuccessfully as a dovish, anti-war Republican against Rhode Island's hawkish incumbent Democratic U.S. senator.

He opened a consulting firm and gave up his Roman collar in 1975 to marry longtime friend Dore, who served as secretary of labor from December 1987 to January 1989. McLaughlin became a talk radio show host on a Washington station in 1980, but only lasted a year.

In 1982, he persuaded wealthy friend Robert Moore, a former aide in the Nixon White House, to underwrite a new form of public affairs television -- and a juggernaut was born.

No pulse for 10 minutes according to some reports. Probably some brain damage.

Immensely talented though very troubled man. I still play his "Faith"album every now and then (and some compilations.) It is a remarkable album of solid songs, every track, which is extremely hard to do.
