C of C
On paper at the beginning of the season, this one seemed like a great opportunity for victory. Now? Probably, not so much but still one of the few winnable ones left. The young CofC team is playing at a pretty high level. Although they have to travel and we can "rest" for back to back home games, we have not shown anything consistently that says we should win this game.

This game will be played just how Bru wants, as slow as humanly possible. CofC will be glad to play that way as well, but probably be better at it than us. This will be a low scoring close game with as few of possessions as possible. Lasts years games in the upper 40's and 50's is likely once again. Look for our bigs to get into foul trouble due to poor footwork and that lead to many points in the paint or from the FT line. We have been better lately but a team that wants to pound it at our bigs, seems like a tall task in not getting into foul trouble.

If we stay out of foul trouble down low, I like our chances of our veterans against their underclassman. If Rodney and Kaz are on the bench early, we could be in some trouble. Another way to steal a win here would actually be press a bit and force the tempo from a slug fest to a leisurely trot and get some transition points. Sprinkle in some zone to mix up the flow of CofC on offense and we may see some success keeping our bigs out of foul trouble.

CofC- 58
Drexel- 54

I guess it is time to give up on the zone even if it does come back.

As far as the game, Canyon Barry missed yesterday's game against Hofstra and is day-to-day with a shoulder injury.

An interesting matchup should be Terrell Allen against Marquise Pointer. From what I've seen, Pointer reminds me a lot of Allen and has been coming on strong as of late.

I think Drexel is capable of winning against any team in the league but at this point it would be a stretch to predict them winning any game.

Unfortunately that is where I am at. Personally I think the set up of the zone is much better than here, but its at least a platform now that we are the only ones left on the zone and clearly nobody is keeping it up anymore, no surprise since ZA was a Mason fan.

We are successful because of the lack of Tavon shooting the ball. He took 3 shots and made 2 a 3 pointer and an and-1 on the break. We give ourselves a chance when we are not taking stupid shots. We were helped that the final 5:17 CofC went without a basket

43-35 12 mins remaining. We came out strong to start the second half. CofC is having issues with turnovers and we are taking those and pushing some pace, which is exactly what we needed to do and it is working. Rodney playing well

8 minute fg-less drought. Thankfully CofC hasnt scored a point in 3 minutes over the same stretch. 46-38 under 8 to go.

4:31 left timeout Drexel. 50-48 still holding onto the lead. This is the closest CofC has been all half.

Kaz with an impressive foul while handing the ball off with two hands, CofC defender fights through the handoff yet somehow Kaz is called for a foul. Up 55-50 big call. CofC comes down and gets a foul and makes both 55-22 2 mins left

That should do it. 15 seconds left 60-54 DU at the FT line.

Dragons win! 61-54. Rodney showed up well today. Turnovers by CofC were the difference. We pushed pace on those and executed to get this win. We hit on the points I stated we needed to to win and we won. Great win at home.

Interesting post game by Rodney. On the short turnaround (standard set up in caa play) we didnt practice yesterday, just had a walk through? It worked but seems strange not to have practiced to prepare for this game.

RE: C of C
It was ugly (especially if you take Rodney out of the mix) but I'll take any kind of win at this point. I think any success this team is to have though will probably be this way, pound it inside as much as you can, get to the foul line, and play tough D.
We couldn't have asked for a much better situation for C of C = coming in on the road with on the second game in three days, after a big win, and without Canyon Barry. Hopefully this can start the ball rolling for more wins to come.

How about Terrel Allen leading the team in rebounds for the day?

That was a tough, grind it out win, and a perfect example of why players should practice free throws more, as the FT shooting clearly was the difference.

It's fascinating how different Drexel's box score's look game by game. One game, they shoot 29% and win...one game they shoot 54% and get blown out. This game, they shoot OK at 41%, but only make 16 FG's and 1 3-pointer for the entire game. The FT shooting throughout the whole game, but especially at the end, was fantastic.

One last note ignoring anything truly real or sensible, clearly we are in a good position where we could beat Kentucky right now (who lost to LSU by 18, who lost to CofC by 12). By that math we would win by approximately 30 over UK. When do we get our banner to hang in the rafters?

Drexel can beat every team in America (with at least 1 loss). Drexel beat LaSalle, who beat Dayton, who beat Iowa, who beat Michigan State, who beat Kansas, who beat Oklahoma....you get the picture.

So that also means that Alaska Anchorage, Cal Baptist, and San Jose Domingo Hills could beat Kentucky and Kansas too.

This is also the case every year in college basketball, which is fantastic. My college roommate in 1995 put together this sort of chart that could prove that anybody could beat anybody else back then too.

Hey I know the facts and that this can be done and means absolutely nothing, but hey any optimism in a bad year, right?
